4 injector motor to 6 injector swap
4 injector motor to 6 injector swap
excuse me for not being too bright on rotary engines! I recently purchased a 2004 RX-8 with a bad engine! I purchased a engine out of a 2007 along with the transmission, drive shaft, wiring harness and ECU! Got all the parts changed out! The car will start! Carried it to the dealership to have the ECU programmed! After $500, the dealership stated they couldn’t figure it out! The car will run with very little power! When shifting into gear, the transmission slams into gear and I don’t have any power steering! Has anyone in here attempted to go from a 4 fuel injector engine to a 6 fuel injector engine with success? I really don’t want to scrap this car!
Lot to unpack here. Let’s start with the basics:
You mention a four injector motor to a six injector motor. Are we talking automatic to automatic or automatic to manual? If the new motor was also an automatic, did you also change out to the TCM? (transmission control module). It is in the pedal box, where the clutch pedal would be.

Pretty sure you need to change the TCM. 2004 and 2007, have different transmissions. 2004 was four speed 2007 was six speed. Could be the same part number mechanically but different software inside as well.
