2008 22,000 Mile RX8 40th anniversary edition
Hello all, I just bought a 2008 22,000 Mile RX8 40th anniversary edition, and ive been doing a good bit of research and I have a few questions:
1. What is the suggested premix to use and how much per gallon/tank?
2. What are the best ignition coils to do
3. Does a SOHN pump actually help? Ive heard mixed things
4. Recommended oil, and frequency of change, I was going to do every 3,000 miles
5. Anything else I should know?
If anyone would like to purchase the vehicle from me, which I will link below, please private message me.
Thank you all and God bless,
Rob

Welcome aboard! Sounds like a great low-mileage find.
The go to coils are BHR. There are others, or you can choose to stay with Mazda and replace them every so often, but BHR is the tried and true option.
Does a Sohn help? It doesn't appear to hurt, and personally I'm a proponent of it, but I have no data to support this aside from my anecdotal experience. For more info read up and form your own opinions.
Oil. Lol. About 20% of this forum is oil arguments so.. read and decide. A lot depends on whether you're running a Sohn.
You need JASO FD rated premix, if you're going to premix. There are many, some cheaper than others. Idemitsu is the classical rotary injection oil, but it doesn't appear to have demonstrable advantages over stuff you can get at Walmart.
Anything else -- these topics have been beaten to death here. You can check RX8help.com for a summary for new owners (compiled from this forum) or find the New and Potential Owners thread here.

Thanks man!
So I found on BHR's website what seems to be these newer coils that don't require any additional parts like harnesses etc. and only require purchasing the coils themselves. Any other reliability mods you recommend?

'Best' coils imo are the Mercury IGN1A, also likely the most expensive option.
I've had the expensive Sakebomb kit for almost 50K miles with no misfires.

The latest version of the Mazda coil is fine. Especially if you consider them a maintenance item.
There is no coil you can buy that will be the perfect, last forever, guaranteed permanent, replacement coil.
premix/sohn/oil…. Just remember there is no strategy that has been 100% proven. The best you will get is anecdotal supporting evidence.
I premix, and run the factory omp. I ran a basic test to confirm fluid flows through the lines into the oil injectors. I check compression regularly and it has been stable. Not saying this is right, just what I do. No guarantees with any of this.

i think its against the rules to post listings for auction sites, 99% sure ebay listings arent allowed so bat might be a no no also

Well in that case I apologize, I am not linking an active auction I am showing the car I purchased because the listing has detailed photos and the carfax link, sorry for violating the rules.

Why are you still replying, talking trash, and acting if I'm trying to finesse? I got an amazing deal on BAT but am having second thoughts considering the complexity of rotaries and what they require, I'm still very much considering keeping it and daily'ing it or keeping it mint until sale in the future. You're being disrespectful for no reason.

Looks like a nice specimen of an RX8. I always liked the 40AE.
Why would you want to sell this beauty so quickly.... just because it seemed complex? Based on my 15-years of ownership, the RX8 is easy to maintain.

Alright so first of all I appreciate the few guys like big cajun, delhi, and loki, but to be honest these other guys are giving me a bad taste in my mouth for this forum. I'm 25, I make $20 an hour right now as a paralegal and am currently in law school, I'm not exactly rolling in cash. I love cars and found out about BAT a few months ago and given the current price of used cars and the the fact that this 40 AE was bidding at 10,000 with 30 min left, I jumped at it. More than likely, whatever is God's will honestly, I will keep and love and drive the car. However considering its not your run of the mill RX8 and is one of 1000 models produced in the US, I figured maybe an enthusiast on this forum would be interested. Stop accusing me of nonsense and slandering my name for whatever weird reason you guys have.

To be fair to the other members, you started out good asking questions, then gave the appearance you were simply flipping it.
To do that without meeting the requirements for posting an official For Sale ad is against the forum rules.
We're enthusiasts who love 8s and take offense to people who simply are trying flip an RX8, whether that was your intention or not.
My advice to you is to keep the car, learn about it from us, and don't be surprised if you fall in love with it and want to drive it as much as possible.
We're here to help if your intentions are good.

Understood guys, I'm just trying to be financially wise and was testing the waters. I have done over 10 hrs of research so far and can't wait to make the journey to PA to retrieve the vehicle. I know there was a reason God had me buy this car and I don't want to disrespect it by simply letting it go. Thanks Big Cajun, for some reason your post made it really easy for me to decide to keep it.

I'm in a good mood because I'm in the process of getting my baby running again after 3 years.
Hopefully I'll be driving it again come September.
Don't hesitate to ask questions here, but Google search first.

You may get some well intentioned flaming if you don't, but some of us are more willing to help.
The forum is vast and full of repetitive threads.
Just about any question you'll have has already been asked.
Just don't ask what kind of oil to use.

But I was going to ask that haha! Ive heard asking that is ripe for division on this forum, im curious as to your personal suggestion however, and anyone else who would like to contribute!

🤣
Type is not as important as changing it religiously every 3000 miles.
Clean oil is the key, use whatever you want, just check an oil website like Valvoline to see what's best for the temperatures in your area, and check it regularly to top it off.
Remember, the engine injects oil for lubrication, so you'll need to keep it topped off and clean.

If you are going to keep it and this is your spare car, I would recommend Hagerty Insurance. Mainstream insurances right now don't recognize the true value of older desirable sports cars. For mine with similar purchase price, mileage and year, kept in a garage driven 5,000/year, it came out to 614/year.
