2007 rx8 new to me won't start obd spliced can't be read

I purchased a crashed rx8. The engine was supposed to be fine, but when I charged the battery up it won't start. The hazards go constantly independently of the switch (when you turn the key back one step the hazard switch works the hazards but no lights are on in dash). The obd cable is cut and many wires are spliced with see through rectangular cable splicers. I assume it was tuned with software. Does anybody know which tuning package requires this surgery? The seller hasn't responded since I got home and the tuner (angel motorsports hasn't responded to me yet).

Pulling it into temporary storage

Glory days

Engine bay

My first question would be, are you going to rebuild and restore the car? If so, I would consider replacing the wiring harness with a known good and uncut harness. It's a lot of work but it will take a lot of guess work out of any wiring diag you may have to do.

Unless it's boosted, most tuning is done via computer, no splicing needed. But.. splices are fixable. Have you checked fuses?
So this is someone's very special project.

Weird things can happen if the battery was connected backwards, perhaps that happened?

The car has an immobilizer built into the ECU, so check if the security light is flashing rapidly. The hazards going constantly sounds like alarm, except someone disabled the horn.

Yes, I intend to restore the car. I will look into the battery first, but I will also check in to rewiring the harness. I assumed there was an older tuning software that ties into the obd since versatune (I believe) advertises not having to do so...

Any links to how to do the rewiring? And I will check the fuses. I checked to see if any were missing but I will pull them and get back to the thread. I spent about a day replacing the upper control arm and raising the car to a more reasonable level (there were completely bottomed out coilovers on the front and it seems stock in the back but seems low (does anybody have a ballpark figure for ground to top of the wheel well for a stock rx8?)...

For background, I purchased a 2005 rx8 ten years ago which was taken by my ex (didn't want the minivan &#128518 and I've always wanted another. This one I can put some sweat equity in and hopefully get a regular driver. I wanted a series 2, but this deal looked too good to pass up...

Ride height should be 14-14.5 inches from center of wheel to the wheel arch. This might help in the future https://foxed.ca/rx7manual/2003mazdarx8/

There's a recall on front lower control arms that you might be eligible for. Save yourself the trouble of replacing them yourself, alignment, etc.

Try also just pressing unlock on the remote or the door after you connect the battery. It should make the hazards stop and set the security into a state where it's not fighting you.

The wiring cuts might have been for the gauges. Depending on which wires, maybe someone was tapping into CANBUS to get the AFR, coolant temp. Not sure how or where they're getting oil temp, might want to track that down. There's no sensor for it stock. The other "X on a switch" stuff sounds like special projects that you probably want to undo. There's no reason to have a manual switch for your fans.

Other weird stuff in the listing: new exhaust manifold? They don't clog, that's not a thing. Cats clog, but check what manifold is on there. Ebay junk will fall apart in a hurry and there is nothing to be gained from it anyway.

Update

I purchased a new obd head and installed it properly, but my Bluetooth obd reader is still not finding it. I'm trying a normal one next week, but I'm getting a bit discouraged. I may need to go to the stealership... 😉
