Hi All,

I started my RX8 two days before but not it is not starting. Not starting means even dash lights not coming up. Even not ignition coming up. I did following two things yesterday don't know this is the reason.

1.My key battery was dead so I removed the key and plugged the same key again.
2.my cigar lighter fuse keep blowing. So I replaced new fuse but it also dead.

I tried with my key. Key is turning to forward but dash lights are not coming on. Seems battery is dead. Please help me to start this. Sorry for my bad english.

If you know that your battery is dead then replace it. I would start there. The fuse blowing indicates that there is most likely a short in that particular circuit. You may also want to clean your grounds before installing the battery as well as make sure the battery cable ends are clean and free of corrosion buildup.

 

Thanks for the reply. I jumped start and replace the battery. Now the issue solved. But my cigar lighter fuse keep blowing. Any reason for this. Appriciate your replies.

 

You have a short circuit in your cigarette lighter or somewhere in its wiring. The whole ashtray is easy to remove, you could try that to see what could be happening. May want to disconnect the battery when you do that or at least make sure the key is not in the car.

 

Thanks for the reply. Once i removed the whole panel. But dont know how to find that short circuit or how to troubleshoot it . Its very important to fix this. Coz my gps is my phone. Please help. Thanks in advance.

 

I'm not sure about this, but does the cig lighter fuse cover the cig lighter and the other socket inside the armrest compartment? If you really need to plug something in, see if that plug still works. It's inside the center arm rest, on its back wall.

If you have a multimeter, disconnect the cig lighter's connector and measure for continuity between the 2 prongs of the cig lighter itself, and again between the 2 prongs of the connector. That will at least tell you which part is responsible. If it's the connector, there's not much you can do except visually examine the wiring wherever it leads. This process could suck.

 

Blown fuse = short...most likely would be in cigarette lighter but it could be on any part of that circuit.

I would start by disconnecting the socket power and see if the fuse stays OK.

Is there something stuck in it??

Appreciate your responses. Sorry for not updating the progress for a while. i removed the front panel and remove the socket from the lighter. But still the fuse blows. Is there anything which connected to this same fuse?

PS: other components are working good without any issues.

Not uncommon in many cars. Most likely the wiring inside the plug socket itself is shorting. Or another possibilty: I had this happen in one of my piston Mazdas once, and it was a short in the accessory's plug that I kept trying to use. Diagnosed the car, but it was the accessory plug itself that was the culprit. May need to replace your gps's plug. (ALL this is if you have diagnosed all other parts of the circuitry to no avail)

 

Are there signs of melting or damage to the plug itself?
