2004 Rx8 stereo replacement

Am curious for those needing to replace the stock CD player (perhaps someone stole yours)..

Now, doing a search I see there are like 8 different option styles:

CD player (less receiver), 6 disc (automatic changer), 6 speaker receiver (dealer inst)
CD player (less receiver), 6 disc (automatic changer), 9 speaker receiver, from 6/03
CD player (less receiver), 6 disc (automatic changer), 9 speaker receiver, thru 5/03
CD player (less receiver), single disc, (6 speaker receiver)
receiver, (AM-FM-CD), 6 speaker
receiver, (AM-FM-CD), 9 speaker (BOSE), ID FE0266AS0
receiver, (AM-FM-CD), 9 speaker (BOSE), ID FE0266DSXA
receiver, (AM-FM-CD), 9 speaker (BOSE), ID FE8366DSXB (6 disc)

Im sure i can narrow it down, but is there issues if receiver is changed? I dont have original one to go off of and I dont know how helpful dealer would be just by VIN alone

ORRRRRR, would it be easier for me to get an aftermarket setup - is there a popular one most people choose ? Will be needing AUX plugin in near future anyways...

Thanks!

Do you have the trim of the RX8 that you have ? Sport/Touring/GT/etc? The only issue here is trying to get if you had a BOSE or not. The reason is because the BOSE models require the amp to properly power the speakers. As far as the dates go, someone might need to verify 100%, but I think the main differences were what firmware they came with from the factory

Aftermarket is nice, but you will need to get the metra kit and a SWC so that you can retain the functionality of the steering wheel stereo controls.

hey thanks, yeah its a GT with the bose.

I saw some years ago of a guy soldering the R & L for an AUX inpiut so thought of doing that.

Whats the best option here in your opion - how much are these "mettra kits & SWC" ?

I actually told the dealer how to fix an AC issue from my car some years off this site, was pretty funny (had to re-solder something on the circuit)

i went with the metra kit. if interested i will sell you my stock setup minus the stuff that transferred to the metra kit (not sure if i understood correctly).

that said crutchfield is still running a special for 50% off the install kit with the purchase of a head unit. I took advantage of this myself, the kit is $150 normally, i bought a $70 head unit. so i saved $5 and got a free head unit basically. And since i already had an in-dash dvd player i was going to use, i sold the new head unit for $50. so i basically got it for $95, i havent seen that price or better anywhere else, plus free shipping and outstanding tech support. if you need a head unit you are getting the kit for $75, even better.
