2004 rx8 bone stock 82k no problems..yet

okay so im pretty new to the rx8 world was looking into doing some light modding to get alittle extra, was going to do pipes manifold back cat delete and secondary 02 delete, AEM intake and finally a tune.
325 for intake
100 for pipes(good friends with OO of lous custom exhaust son)
and 400 for tune.
will i notice anything more then noise?

along with doing all this i'll be converting to the sohn adapter aswell.

By "pipes" do you mean the single midpipe?

If so, you will notice a very slight pickup, assuming that is an RB or AEM intake. If it's anything else, you either won't notice anything at all, or will notice CEL problems and power loss.

Are you tuning with MazdaEdit or your own AccessPORT? There are no other options at the moment, and that price doesn't fit either the AccessPORT or MazdaEdit

I have a suspicion that you really haven't researched much...

You should feel a little better response and of course the butt dunk will probably where u would feel the most power. Another upgrade before tune would be the ignition upgrade. I would do that first.
With that said I would spend a lot of money on exhaust and all these extra bolt ons. Save your cash and buy a turbo kit there is a lot so used ones around on the site. For now I would do stance. That's my opinions.

If you read i said AEM by pipes i mean full exshaust manifold back and this rottary shop near me said they have axcessport i think to clear the CEL and tune it.I've read allittle, thus why i choose aem. i heard that or mazda speed was the only way to go.

yeah i that was actually next thing on the list the msd halo racing one, any imput on that coil/wire kit or other ones?

turboing with out rebuilding scares me and rebuilding + turboing and everything is a little to much for me right now, but i could afford the aem intake , msd ignition, pipes and a tune=/

Sorry, I missed the AEM reference.

Read up some more on the AccessPORT. 1 AccessPORT gets paired with 1 car. If the shop has the AccessPORT and they install it on your car, they won't be able to use it on anyone else's RX-8 ever again until they uninstall it from yours, which reverts everything to the stock tune/map/flash. And unless you have the physical device, you won't be able to get any other use out of it. Each AccessPORT firmware type is specific to a make, model, and region. For example you can't use a Subaru AP on an RX-8, you can't even use a JDM version of the RX-8 AP on a US spec RX-8.

You pretty much have to purchase the AP yourself, and then pay to have someone tune it (or learn yourself) A brand new AccessPORT is $500 (only 1 authorized vendor exists for the RX-8 AP), used around $350-400.

Good to know, thank you. Now to go figure out what these clowns are offering me for 400 ...for the aem, msd, exhaust , and coobport + finding someone to tune it will get it a little extra upmh for the summer? ( save to do turbo )

Yea plugs in flashes then I need to license it for your year then tune it for your mods

Takes about 3 hrs

this is what he said, what would he be talking about?

he said look him up on this page and that all they work with is rotarys

Hmm.... Yeah, if you buy an AP, it would be from Mazdamaniac in Arizona, and for $100 more you get 6 months or so of remote tuning.

Looking at the information on their page, they seem to know their RX-7s, but I'd get some hard facts about their ability to tune RX-8s, since it's NOT the same thing, and you can lose an engine with mistakes made by RX-7 tuners that don't understand the differences.

For $400, I'm not even sure it's possible for them to be able to do as much as they have stated. At best, they would be buying a used AP from someone here on the forum, then basically charging you nothing for free tuning. Suspicious to an extreme.

It is a single guy, not a company, so "they" doesn't really apply.

No, you get the AP, install it on the car, upload the base map to the car, then you take a series of logs. You send these logs to him. Then you hop on google chat with him at a designated time, and he gives you the updated tune. You go out and take another series of logs, come back, give those to him, he adjusts the tune, sends the adjustment, and repeat 5-8 times until your tune is good. Usually doesn't happen all in 1 session, but that is more up to when your schedules link up and how long you have.

This is remote tuning, which is different from sticking your car on a dyno and getting dyno tuned, or having a tuner ride around in your car for a day street tuning your car.

If you don't know for certain the compression of your engine, and have not driven other 8s to know what a healthy one should feel like, it's always worth getting a compression test. If it's failing, you now know. If it's not failing, you now know. Either way, you know what kind of engine you have in the car.
