13b Swap question
Howdy! While I don't own an rx8 I have a 280z who's motor needs too much work for what it's worth to me so I have been thinking about swapping something else in. The option that seems the most tempting right now is a 6 port 13b Rew out of an rx8 which can be had with ecu and wiring for around 1.8k with a 6 speed manual on ebay. I have always liked rotaries and think it would make a great car as the 280z is super light and that engine will make it even lighter. Anyway i know some ecus freak out if they are not connected up to the correct gauge cluster with out reprogramming. I have been trying to find more information about swapping the 6 port 13b Rew into things but i haven't had really any luck finding information so I am here to try to get educated on the motor so I can figure out this swap. Also if anyone around Indy would be down to have me as a passenger that would be awesome. You can talk numbers all day but what really matters is how the engine feels and makes power.

Before all that, I wouldn't buy a rotary of unknown health on ebay. A fresh rebuild, sure. A used one that may not hold compression is buying problems.
REW is the RX7 twin turbo engine, the RX8 engine is called Renesis. So just make sure you're looking at the right thing.
The RX8 ECU has a built in immobilizer so it needs a matching and programmed ignition barrel and key to work with, and all of the gauges run off CANBUS, which your 280 won't have. It might be easier to use a standalone than try to make the RX8 one work.
And at that point, you may as well run a twin turbo REW
