04 RX 8 AT Issue

I purchased a flooded RX 8 and Towed it home on a car dolley. Previous owner indicated no other issues with it. After installing a new battery it crank right up but will not go in any forward gears only reverse. 123,000 miles on the car. Anyone have any ideas on a fix?

That sounds like a TCM or a problem with the transmission itself. My 2005 AT had a transmission dipstick. This is a wild *** guess, but whats the fluid like?

You can't get in forward as in you can't move the lever to D or you can move it to D, but nothing happens?

Like said, check the fluid first, but it might be the TCM like mentioned, or could be problems with the solenoids.

I can shift into drive and even manually shift to gears but it will not move.

Sounds like a problem between the TCM and the transmission itself. The car thinks youre in gear, but you cant do anything. Like I said, check the fluid, replace the fluid, then see what happens. If not that, you might need to find a reputable transmission shop in your area.

On an unrelated note, i have a low mileage 4 speed automatic transmission taking up space in a garage.

Did you check the TCM fuse?

It’s roughly where the clutch pedal would be in a manual trans car, to the left of the brake pedal.

Page 61 on this PDF describes removal.
