Man, I don't know how anyone drives these cars without catalytic converters, the fumes are absolutely brutal-my eyes are still watering! Is this how all cars used to smell back before emissions standards?

The new catalytic converter is going on tomorrow!!!

When I was a kid in the seventies you could smell almost every car that drove down the street. Last weekend there was a local car show and a 69 Chevelle went by and all you could smell in the neighborhood was raw fuel when he gassed it. It was pretty brutal. Even with the cat my RX-8 smells on a cold start early on a cool morning.

Alright, some progress! Got the Walker OEM replacement Cat on there, THANK GOODNESS! The CEL went out automatically after a few hours or running around town. Not only can I breathe again, but I'm sure the folks behind me are grateful too--that was terrible lol! Once I get a chance, I need to see what brand the test pipe is and then list it up for sale here cheap.

Next up, I need to figure out the A/C. Documentation that came with the car from some dealer visits seem to indicate the system is full of R134A at the correct pressure, testing with no leaks, but had a failing Climate Control panel. It has a Double DIN stereo installed, so I need to figure out how to tear into the dash and get at the controls. I need to research if I these are VIN coded to the car or if I can just grab a used one.

nah its a common problem in the **** you could fix soldering or just replace with any other one. i have a few if you need one.

try holding pressure on the **** towards the cold temperature for about 10 seconds see if it doesnt start turning cold. the contacts wear out for the max AC/furthest cold setting and it will not engage unless you force it with pressure and hold it

Yep bingo! I pushed down hard on the **** towards the cold side and sure enough it got ice cold, but when I let go, it became scorching hot again. Thank you very much for that tip; you saved me a bunch of time and headache!

Rasta_RX, thank you so much. After confirming the failed Climate Control module based on your advice, I looked up the repair, broke out my soldering iron and FIXED it! A/C is blowing ice cold now. Man, I appreciate it!

I'm unsure if I will be making it to BOTD. Currently, I am dealing with a broken driver's side door lock/latch. The door won't open at all. Sucks, because I was just about to strip the door panels for PDR on Wednesday to take out a few dings. That will have to wait now most likely. No big deal, I've been lucky with the car so far so just going to have to deal with this.

Goal is to get this car back to close to 100% mint, like my old Shinka was!

Would you mind posting what you paid for it? This is my dream car/color as well. I passed one up based on price and some other issues, now I regret it ):

Such a beautiful car, congrats!
