Why?

I'm really new to the rotory motor. I dont know anything about them but don't worry I tried searching before I posted...Why does the RX-8 headers has 3 pipes if its only a two rotor cause I've seen RX-7 motors and they only have two pipes... Can someone answer me that in details I really want to learn this stuff

Clue is in the name 'multi SIDE port' . Exhaust ports are in the irons either side of the rotor and the middle iron shares exhaust gasses from both rotors so ...... 3 pipes

RX-7 motors have peripheral exhaust ports, meaning they exhaust ports are in the center of the housings. One hole per rotor.
