Wellesley MAZDA - any experience?

Does anyone in the Boston Area have experience with Wellesley MAZDA on Rte 9?
I bought my car out-of-state for the sake of configuration and are looking for a
"service home" in my area.

Any experience or recommendation is appreciated.

I bought my car from them and the sales manager was great. After dealing with the sales team I was shocked and appalled by the rude and uninformed service manager. I took the car in twice for service. The first time they put the wrong oil in and refused to correct it. The second time I brought the car in because I was having problems with the clutch with just 7k miles on the car.

The service manager was down right verbally abusive and refused to do the work under warranty or to give me a loaner car. Instead he told me to continue driving the car until he received the parts from Mazda. The following day the clutch completely died and left me stranded. When I called the service manager and he told me to f' off. This isn't the type of service I expected when I bought a $33k car so I called the sales manager. He apologized profusely and pointed out that sales and service are really two different business housed under one roof. He felt bad about how the service department was handling the situation and personally called the Mazda regional rep and made arrangements to have the car taken to another dealership where they would do the repair without question and also have a loaner car waiting for me.

Like I said the sales manager was awesome and I'd gladly buy another car from him but you couldn't pay me enough to ever take my car back there for service.

I just bought my car from there a few months ago. I agree the sales team was pretty good and I'm still very pleased with the deal I got. I haven't had to bring it into service yet, but now I'm a bit concerned after that last post. I'll give them a chance when I bring it in for an oil change next month and I'll see how that goes. I do have a few warranty issues to resolve, cracked defrost buttons, and a few scratches that were on the car when I bought it. They said they'd fix them, and I did get that in writing so we'll see how well they deal with that.

Ok, living up to my promise...

I have been at Wellesley Mazda this morning for my first oil change.
These are my observations:
  • The time planning was good. My car was in the shop about 15 minutes after arrival.
  • The service Manager was friendly. He is kind of a quiet character. That might bw misunderstood, but actually he was very friendly and helpful.
  • The mechanic appeared to be very competent.
  • Got an PCM update even though my car is not in the mandatory VIN range. (Service manager: "We will hook up the computer and make sure you have the latest updates...")
Will go there again....

I usually take mine to 128 Mazda. The rotary guy there is apparently one of the best in the industry. They always give me good service, although I must admit they do take some time. Best part is the waiting room has connections for high speed internet. So bring your laptop and have a blast while they are wrenching on your 8.

I bought my 8 from Wellesley and have had 2 services there, they seem pretty good.

The first service was a simple oil change, I had asked for a PCM update and they flashed it to M.

The second service was an oil change and for them to look at my transmission. I complained that gear changes were crunchy and that reverse would randomly disengage on me. I got a loaner for the day for only 5 bucks in fuel charge. They changed the oil, rotated the tires, flashed to L without me even asking about it, did the inspection and said they test drove it for the transmission. They couldn't reproduce the problem. I can't really fault them on that, I don't think they could justify dropping the transmission to inspect just because I don't like the way it feels. However, I figured I should at least have the complaint recorded in case the tranny really let go like some of the horror stories I've heard on this board.

About the service manager, I agree with Q-chan, the SM is definately quiet and a man of few words, I couldn't imagine him ever being verbally abusive.

Speed Racer, when did you have the car in? I wouldn't be surprised if that mean service manager got the boot. Wellesley seems to care a lot about thier reputation, so I don't think that kind of behaviour would last.

I bought the car from them in July 03 and I brought the car back for clutch work 3 months later. I haven't been back there since then. It doesn't sound like we are talking about the same service manager. So I'm glad that they have made some changes for the better.

Keep posting up your experiences as I'm sure that other people would like to know which dealerships they can trust.

Good info about the flashes, I was wondering how much I'd have to go through to get updated for new flahses. I do wonder what mine is though, I bought it a few days after the N flash came out and I'm not sure if they reflashed it. After reading some of your posts I'm figureing they probably did. Still gonna ask them to check when I go in for oil next month.

Probably because my car is outside the TSB VIN range, they listed it very generic on the invoice.
"MAZDA Full Circle Inspection.......Checked PCM calibration - reflashed to latest level"

And the car feels very different in the 2500-4500 RPM range, much more power and
linearity - so it is consistent with the "N Flash Reports" in the Tech Garage.

Oil change, inspection, reflash and a hand-full of useful hints from the service manager -
all together for just $35.19, I'm happy.
