Interesting read on the Skyline...

I have a friend that just brought one over a R33 a few months ago and has it registered, no problems -but costly. I also know people that paid in full for an R33 only to have it seized by customs.

i said that..so people got the impression that it would be fast...because lets face it(and this time im not joking) the rx8 and a stock FD may have similar power to the wheels...but which one do you think is going to give you more of a rush?

and as per the light, all rx7's came with it..it was mazdas idea to put a thermister near the exhaust ports that would send a signal to the light to let you know when the exhaust ports were getting dangerously close to warping from the heat

i have that light too

its not actually in the exhaust system...lol

im guessing you didnt read past that part huh? i was only kidding...and i only drive my car as a daily anyway...and i dont really consider my car a sports car in todays standards.....its slow and can only really out handle cars that werent meant to handle turns anyway

so lighten up there chrissy old pal...a little joke now and then isnt a bad thing

Also We forget In the 90's almost all the hottest Sportcars were out... rx7,supra, nissan Z, Mitsubishi 3000GT Vr4....But then we had a financial crisis that hurt us and really hurt Japan... which pretty much put all these cars to a end...

History repeats its self..

Things started to pick back up in the 2000's.. which help to release the new rx8, nissan z, and GTR. But i think that might be the last of the sport cars for a long time. No company is going to put money into research and development in times like these.

The GTR is probably the last Japanese sports car to be revived. the "NEW RX7" isnt comming for a loOOOooooong while. Allthoe rotary enthusiast dont want to accept it

Im not comparing it to the Rx8, the 8 is a different class, different car, different purpose, etc. You cant just assume because i own one and your on the 8club im gonna make the 8 the great greek god Pussiliyuss.

Rx8= Overall Good car for Mazda
Rx7 FD= Overall Bad car for Mazda

What i was trying to get accross from the exhaust light convo was that it scarred buyers away.

Exh. Overheat light, It wont bother us guys but think outside of the box for the actual population.

The only reason the Rx7 Fd came out was because of the 787b in lemans. Mazda had to celebrate and brag so they made a rush to the market car while the hype was still around. Lemans wont Happen again both of us know this so whats coming for the next RX is gonna be just like the rx8, Focused on mass sales and profit for Mazda.

sorry to say this, but you are 100% wrong about what you just said...the light didnt scare anybody away..because if it had sales back in the late 70's would not have done so well...like i said before...that light is in ALL rx7's would you like to see it in mine next tuesday?

the real reason the FD did so bad was actually multiple...but it all boils down to timing

1)another gas crissis which started to make people not buy cars with bad gas mileage...other companies were affected in the same manor..as you can see when you look at Z and supra sales of the time

2) like above times were changing people were being more aware of "greenhouse" effects..so what do they do in 96? they creat a new computer system for cars dubbed: OBDII, with rotors horrible emmisions the FD would never be able to pass these new restrictions...big time issues for mazda america

3)the complexity of the turbo system and the constant issues with boost management because of the technologies they had at the time made consumers weary about buying one(but of course after 96 these issues were fixed but mazda never brought it back to america)

4) with all the brains in mazda, they just could not figure out a way to keep the engines cool...so they decide the only way to do so is to dump more fuel plus the already "proven" idea that injecting oil helps...but because it was a poor idea engines still went and the "unreliable" scars were soon to develope
as we know now the best way to keep a turbo rotor cool is to use AI, as well as delete to OMP and premix(something mazda themselves will never do because it adds complexities...which is why rx8's also blow rather frequently)

and as for you ideas about Le Manns...they are also completely wrong. the 3rd gen rx7 was first put into delevopement back in 86..i believe thats 5 years before Le Manns

"The year was 1991. Nissan had released its 300ZX twin-turbo. Honda's NSX was one of the only cars in decades to put fear into the primarily European competition. Mitsubishi's AWD 3000GT Twin Turbo had more technological wizardry than ever seen in almost any price range.

Mazda's flagship sports car, the RX-7 had been around since 1978. A replacement was in the workings... The story behind the third-generation Mazda RX-7 (FD3S), is one of dedication and attention to detail. The project began in 1986 -- just after the release of the second generation (FC3S) RX-7, and at a time when a Japanese sports car revival was just over the horizon.

Takaharu Kobayakawa, the program manager on the project, was determined that the changeover to the new model was not a Zevolution. It was a term he used to describe the competitor, Nissan's, Z-cars, which got progressively larger and heavier with each generation. As its competitors gained gadgets and driving aids, such as self-adjustable spoilers, rear-wheel steering, traction control, and all-wheel drive, Kobayakawa felt they were losing sight of the original vision. The RX-7 was decided to be a pure, back-to-the-basics sports car."

the only things that killed off the 7 was the engine itself and mazdas inability to fix the issues we all deal with regardless of year or model, and timing with the gas issues

anything else you wish to know?

though after rereading some info i must apologize and say i was wrong about one thing....the functionality of the FD's overheat exhaust light, this is the real function:

What is the "exhaust system overheat" light for?

The "exhaust system overheat" light is connected to a temperature sensor
inside the car, under the carpeting, by the passenger seat. The
location of this sensor is just above the main catalytic converter, and
its purpose is to warn of excessive heat being generated by the converter.
When the temperature of the passenger floor reaches about 220 degrees F,
the ECU activates the relief air bypass and bleeds off air that would
otherwise go to the catalytic converter. This has the effect of cooling
the catalytic converter.

Im not gonna go further into this online. You've obviously made your mind and will go to any extent to copy and paste bs that proves nothing.

I know what a exhaust overheat light looks like in a FC. There was no need for your smart *** comment.

Stop thinking your always right.

i dont think im always right, especially since i corrected myself...i just post the info ive learned.

look man, just because your wrong doesnt mean that what i say and the information i provide is bogus.....and i never ever said that im always right.

but lets be reasonable for a bit here...it doesnt even make sense for any company..hell even honda..to push out a car and finish with all the R&D, prototyping, testing, and everything else it takes to work on a car, and be done with it in 1 and a 1/2 years. does that really make sense to you?

and im not being sarcastic here its a real question

pretty cool stuff. I always thought the rx7 had such low sales because of the twin turbos being too complicated and causing all sorts of problems. and because it was way too much $ for the masses.
