Texan in need of help...
ok...I'm about to leave my job in Tx, and move to Virginia. I want to be near my fiance, so it's time to move...since my job won't move me or xfer me, i'm on my own. I'm hoping that some of you work in the tech sector, and can tell me if you're hiring or not. I don't have a clearance but I am working on it. I've been working in the field for 10 years now, and have mostly desktop experience, but a lot of server experience as well. Systems Administration, SMS are my two specialties. Please let me know if you want a resume, or you have some things in mind.
Thanks.
Thanks.
well, i'm hoping to be near D.C. up in sterling, or around there somewhere. The problem is everything i've found in that area requires a security clearance...i don't have one. :P
The reason i asked here, i like to find a place where people i know are already working, so I can get an idea on how they like the job, and wether or not it is actually a good place to work. I could just find a job, and i might have to, but i'd rather find a good place first.

Look at Northrop Grumman. They have several sites in Maryland and they're still looking for people. They will pay for your clearance. Go to their website and you'll see job offerings listed. Once you impress the right person, everything is cake. Just gotta get yourself an interview and be enthusiastic without sounding like a total weirdo.

Why the resistance to security clearance? Don't jobs that *require* security clearance help you to *get* the security clearance? There shouldn't be a problem with applying and interviewing unless you *know* you have have some particular problem that will prevent you from ever getting security clearance. (Which isn't like a personal fault or something - non-US-citizens cannot get the higher levels of security clearance - that's just rules).
it's not a resistance. I want a clearance. The problem, is most of the jobs want one when you start. so i'd have to find a job that would help me get one. I would be able to get the clearance, i have nothing on my record, or in my past that would stop me, it's just getting into a job, that will allow me to then get the clearance that's the problem.

Northrop needs good system admins with experience in running Windows and UNIX networks. It's all about convincing them that you are enthusiastic and intelligent. Once you get the job, you can just stand around looking important like I did.
heh...sounds like perot...look enthusiastic, and sounds intellegient...next thing you know you work there, makeing good money, and just kinda doing your thing. Found some great jobs at Northrop though, so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the advice saturn.
