Speed World Challenge and Grand Am races at The Glen
Folks,
The Speed World Challenge and Grand-Am series are coming to Watkins Glen on June 8-10. As with other races this season, Marlon and I are going to work with Mazdaspeed Motorsports for a three day meet where we:
1. Get our own Mazda car corral
2. Get passes to all the scheduled races.
3. Get to cheer on the Mazdaspeed 6's from Protomotive Racing, Tindol Motorsports, and Tri-Point Engineering as they leave the competition behind in the Speed World Challenge Touring Car series. See the SpeedSource RX-8 GT cars in action!
4. Get to meet the team members and drivers working to lead Mazdaspeed to victory. See them and their race cars up close and personal.
5. Drive a pace car controlled parade lap around the Watkins Glen course with your fellow Mazda enthusiasts.
6. Much much more.
Our aim is to have corrals jam-packed with Mazda enthusiasts at virtually every venue that Mazdaspeed is racing. As a grand finale, we hope to have a huge car corral at the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. We did it at Sebring. We're going to do it for Lime Rock and we certainly plan on doing it for The Glen.
We discussed this with the higher ups at Mazdaspeed Motorsports and they couldn't be more enthusiastic. They supported us by sponsoring ALMS meet down at Sebring, FL. We're currently working with them for the Lime Rock meet. With sponsorship, we were able to secure premium race week packages for the attendees at discounted prices. Msumlin and I would like to replicate that package at The Glen as well, but that will only occur if we show Mazda that there are plenty of committed diehard enthusiasts for the race.
Having attended the SWC/ALMS races at Mid-Ohio and Sebring, I can testify that going to these races is nirvana for Mazda enthusiasts of all ages. The Mazda teams will appreciate your attendance, because it makes the race mean much much more with supporters in the stands. You, the enthusiast, will be treated to best racing series running in America today in the company of like-minded individuals. I guarantee you that it will be an experience of a lifetime.
Also, we are looking for a local NY Mazda dealership interested in sponsoring such an event. If anyone knows of any "special" dealerships (the ones that give great service, mod-friendly, etc.) please forward their contact to either me or Msumlin. We realize that dealerships are an integral component of the overall Mazda community, hence we invite their participation in these kind of events.
Let me start a list to see who's interested:
1. Ray (raynman), Mazda6, 1 cars, 1 pass
2. Msumlin, Mazda6, 2 cars, 2 passes
3. njaremka; 2001 protege, 1 car, 2 passes
4. DaveB, 2002 Protege5, 1 car, 2 passes
5. mcpopop, 1 Mazda6 ,2 passes
6. wannabe (C6C), 1 MS6, 4 passes
7. Kansei, 1 car, 1 pass
8. Jason (NYRA Prez), 1987 Mazda RX-7, 2 passes
9. LapisLove, 1 car, 1 pass
10. Edrive73 (SU), 1 car, 1 pass
11. Elysium19, RX8club, 1 car, 1 pass
12. Chicane, 1 MS6, 4 passes
13. Subspeed6, 1 MS6, 1 pass
If you're interested, then add you name to the list, state how many car corral spaces you wish to reserve, and how many people in your party. Feel free to browse my Sebring album for photos and videos of what to expect in meet like this.
Hope you all can join us.

Lime Rock is this weekend and we shall be meeting with our Mazdaspeed contacts at some point during the weekend to discuss.
Unfortunately we don't have the resources to coordinate accomodations. Each participant will be responsible for that.
I think someone glanced at the schedule wrong. This event is on July 6-7, NOT June 8-10. Event is listed here:
www.grand-am.com/Events/Event.asp?ID=196
It should be a great event, so lets not get things and people confused....

The June 8-10 date is for Rolex Series which is the series that the SpeedSource RX-8's compete in. Also racing that weekend is Speed World Challenge which the Mazda 6 teams compete in.

We don't have enough interest generated to justify a corral. Nevertheless, we are still pursuing with Mazdaspeed whatever support we can muster despite the numbers.
At the very least, we can have an extended meet of sorts. Both Marlon and I have good relationships with Tindol, Tri-Point, and SpeedSource. So much so that while we might not have the corral content that we had at Lime Rock, at the very least you'll still have some level of access to the teams given our relationship with them.

OK. Kind of disappointing....but my girlfriend and I will still be going up for saturday. Let's at least try to get the RX folks together if possible, and yeah I would definitely like to be able to see the RX8 racers up close. So I should just buy tickets normally through the watkins glen site, in that case? I've never been there before and don't know the track at all. Is it just general admission? Let me know if any plans for a mazda-folks-meetup of any sort comes together. Thanks!

Due to lack of interest, I very much doubt that we'll have the tent, our own designated parking, parade lap, catering, etc.
Though, we still have leftover shirts and hats from Lime Rock. Marlon and I will have to regroup with what resources we have left for The Glen.
Though we won't have the items I mentioned above, we do have a good relationship with the teams and I have good confidence that at the very least you guys will have just about the same access to the teams, crews, drivers, cars, etc. that the Lime Rock people did. Of course, we'll stay together as a Mazda group.
We're waiting for a reply from Mazdaspeed. Hold off on buying general admission tickets, for now. Stay tuned.

Hope you guys are having fun @ the Glen. Be sure to cheer on Tremblay and Speedsource. They haven't been themselves in a couple weeks.

Awesome, glad to hear he is ok. He definitely didn't sound good over the mic right after the crash. Good luck to Speedsource, they've got a lot of wrenching to do this week.
