Hi guys. Curious for your thoughts and opinions on this one.

I bought my car over a year ago. This past winter I drove my other car (as I did for several years before the rx8) during the winter (Oldsmobile Alero with all seasons) with no major problems - some slippage here and there but drove slow and not like an idiot if need be during bad conditions. I got rid of the car now due to some mechanical difficulties that didn't seem worth fixing for the value of the car.

After reading through the threads about driving in winter and snow tires, it seems like the 8 holds up pretty well, but I'm still a little hesitant. I have never driven a RWD vehicle in the snow and obviously I don't want to get stuck or ruin the vechicle crashing or something. Will I be okay with just the 8 with snow tires all winter long, even if we get a foot of snow as is known to happen sometimes around these parts (Buffalo NY)? The roads are generally plowed pretty regularly, but sometimes it is hard to keep up if a massive snowfall were to hit. I don't want to be stranded at home in a big snowfall when I have to be able to get to work.

So, should I just put snow tires on the 8? Or should I get a winter car? Problem is, if I get a winter car I want something nice that I will like driving the other 5-6 months of the year. I have been looking at BMW, Audi, Lexus etc AWD vehicles. Then again, does it really make sense to have such an expensive vehicle as my winter car? I guess my other option would be to put snow tires on the 8 and get a really crappy winter beater car I would drive only on the worst of days rather than dropping 30K plus on another vehicle.
