VA Problems with the body shop

Four weeks ago, I was sitting at red light in Norfolk, Va and a SUV rear ended me in my RX8. I didn't think that it was that much damage, but I had no idea was going to be in a for a long ride!

It took a week for this body that was going to do the work to start working on my car and then every other day, I heard a different excuse as to why it was being held up. The appraiser that came out and looked at the car said it should have taken 7 days to fix, and now we are entering week 5.

I was told Wednesday that my car was having issues cranking. Once the tech would get it started, it had a really rough idle. This really got me because my car has always been very calm when idleing. I asked to crank the car myself to feel for issues, but they insisted that the motor had "collected water" and it woudl be fine.

Yesterday I got a call that after they had finally completed the labor on the vehicle, a tech was backing out of the paint booth and ran my RX8 into another car and it would a week before they would finish the damage they caused.

I asked about the rough idle at this point and was told that they had taken the spark plugs out to "dry" because they had condensated while the car sat in the parking lot waiting to be fixed. This sounds like BS to me and I think that this could be something else. I do have an AEM CAI, could they have ran my car through a puddle? Anyone ever heard of this?

They flooded it. Plain and simple. Tell them if they start the car to let it idle for at least 5 minutes before turning it off. And then tell them to quit lying to you about condensation on the spark plugs. What a crock of crap that line is.
Tell them to get the car done ASAP and in perfect shape before you sue them for incompetence and wrecking your car. I would take it to a new body shop and that knew what they were doing. Of course make their insurance pay to have the car finished.

Like Easy said...they flooded it

Every time mine has been in the body shop they have flooded it...even with very clear directions about what to do and not do when I took it in

First time they towed it to Mazda dealer...and cost them $300 to get it going...

Second time they called me and waived my deductible when they did it again

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help! Do you think I really have a lawsuit here? I am so frustrated and I have been driving a darn Cobalt for a month and I am tired of this POS car. I pray I get it back by Wednesday!

Lawsuit Come on.....you need to tear the shop manager a new butt hole....but to actually sue someone for something like that is so silly Unless there are specific damages that they don't address...you are unlikely to get anywhere anyway....

They gave you a free car to use...so minimal damage there Unless you can prove that you were psychologically damaged from driving the Cobalt in the first place

Body shop flooded mine too. Just make sure they fix any issues caused by the flooding. Body shop I used was good enough to bring it to Mazda and have them fix all of that (and then some).

GL with everything

Yes, I was sitting at 63,000 miles. It is really crazy how it has just been one thing after another and it seems like it is going to keep going on now. It took all I had not to flip out.

Crazier thing is, that I called and left voicemails on three different manager's phones last week and none of them have returned my call. I am just so pissed and weary of being aggressive because of what they might do if I become more stern. I just want my car back fixed and ready to go at it!

Thanks everyone for your support.

I did see it about a week and a half ago. At that point we were in week four and the rear bumpers was still not on yet. I could see where they had mended the dents and dings from the accident, but little progress as to where I thought they should be.

I have had too many headaches with this accident and I could post over 1000 more problems. Very frustrated and praying that it is complete tomorrow. I want to reward myself with a HKS Legamax exhaust for all of the hassle but we will see. I just hope it drives the same.

UPDATE: I called the shop today to see when the car was going to be complete. They tell me that it would be ready for pick up tomorrow.

Then I get a call this afternoon telling me that the tail light they had ordered came in cracked and they rear bumper they had painted was not the correct trim model!!!!! They are getting these parts overnighted and stated it would be Wednesday before I could get the car! One thing after another and now I have to wait even longer. Funny thing is, they are trying to charge me for rust damage that they did not ask about repairing. Apparently there was rust in the trunk, they fixed it, the insurance company will not pay for it, now they want to charge me and I was never notified until after it was fixed!

What should I do, please help!

Dont pay for it. Fight it. If they didn't you and they just fixed it then too bad for them. Don't back down and don't take their ****. Tell them they did it as a courtesy for taking so damn long and ******* everything up.

Thank Big, I appreciate it. I am starting to get worried about the integrity of the workmanship now. If people are clumsy enough to wreck the car and then order the wrong parts, they could be dumb enough to mess it up worse.

I am definetly going to get someone else to check it out and see if it was done right.
