(Pics) Why old people need retesting every few years

Keep in mind, its been 2 to 3 weeks or so since i got my car back from having the front bumper repainted.

The pictures are large so heres links to them, the story is below

http://usdiver.org/car/1108091750b.jpg

So I was in NJ driving around my town when at an intersection where "NO LEFT TURN" is clearly posted in a number of OBVIOUS spots, an car full of elderly people decide it would be a good time to turn left. Well, someone beeped at them, I looked to see what the hell was going on with beeping, when I felt a bump. Apparently, the beeping caused the guy infront of me to stop in the middle of the intersection.

I looked forward and saw the back of the other guys car as he moved forward, I wanted to die when I saw the damage to his car. I was horrified and didn't even want to think what my car looked like. Well, I did. I got out and looked after pulling to the side of the road. I couldn't have been doing more than 5 or so MPH as I was at a stop and only started accelerating and was coasting in first when I bumped him. Well, here it is, my car. One very expensive oil change. The passenger side oil coiler was shot and I lost all my oil before the tow truck got there.

P.S. I didn't know my cell phone took such huge pictures.

Ouch. What sucks is that since you rear ended someone else you are at fault. That will hurt worse in the long run. Nobody was injured, right?

Yeah, i'm hoping my insurance has accident forgiveness. But we'll see. I didn't get a ticket so that helps. And no, no one was hurt. Only my ego.

Unless your leaving something out, I see no reason why your remark about "old people". They did not hit you - you hit someone else. Your lack of attention caused this accident.

If the Old People had not been making an Illegal Left, then someone would not have beeped and thus causing me to look for the source of the beep, and if the old people could just read the damn signs, the beeping would not have occured, meaning the car infront of me would not have stopped.

Therefore the accident is a direct result of the Old Person Driving making an Illegal Left. Which is why the officer that showed up did not issue me a ticket.

Um.... not quite

The cause of the car stopping ahead of you was because of the old men yes. But the accident was still caused from your lack of paying attention to the car ahead of you and not keeping your distance regardless.

Eh, its going to cost me $500 for my deductible, then my insurance may or may not go up. But at least I have full coverage so my car is going to get fixed and not be out of my pocket aside from the deductible.

I looked up parts today and i've got at least $1700 in parts damage to my car alone. So goes the life of owning a car with lots of plastic. Fortunately, the hood and headlamps are fine. The damage seems isolated to the area below the headlamps. The frame wasn't bent, so that helps.

sad to hear, but don't blame others for your mistake. i know its easy to push blame on to others specially when upset, but the title of the thread is rude and misleading. i've seen all sorts of people make illegal turns not just old.

i'm sure the other guy has a thread; some tail gating guy in a rx8 rear ended me while checking out some old people making a illegal turn.

Dude!

DONT GO THROUGH YOUR INSURANCE! Just fix that yourself -- You will be paying that off x20 in the long run if you do it through your insurance.

If only I could afford to fix it myself. And theres no way I could afford to fix my car, let alone the other persons. The estimate I got in damage to my car alone was close to $4800 and that was from a family friend who is trying to save us some money. I can't afford an oil cooler at this point let alone all the other crap that broke between the two cars. Such is the life of a poor college student.

This blows, two weeks and still no car back. Can't afford a rental and i'm sick of being like a 12 year old who needs "Mommy" to take them everywhere. Body Shop said I was supposed to have it back today and still nothin. Hope its done tomorrow. They said they were just waiting on a headlight and such. I wasn't aware I needed one, though I didn't have a good look at it. Though it didn't look broken to me other then being shifted about an 1/8th of an Inch. I just hope they didn't order the wrong parts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but arn't there two different style headlights based on whether or not it was factory HID? Considering my car has the conversion to HID I hope they didn't order the wrong parts.

Sad story, but it does sound like its your fault for following to close.

That's why it states in the DMV driving manual to stay 1 car length for every 10mph of speed traveling.

Good Luck

Got the car back today, so much nicer now then having to be driven around or borrowing a car. Though i've got a slow leak from the one valve on the driver side front tire. Though my insurance company put a new rim on the estimate, so I got a new rim out of this. No more curb rash on that one at least.

Apparently there was alot more broken then what I could see that night. Either way its fixed now and i'm satisfied. Though the guy said that they sent a bunch of wrong parts which is what delayed it. For example they sent the driver side oil cooler instead of passenger side. Either way I drove 60 miles with it today and it runs fine. I'm just a little worried about the tire pressure.

Anyone have any idea why the TPMS light would not go away after I put air in the tires and they all have enough pressure? Aside from the one thats leaky. Would that cause it? Or the fact the car was not run for around 2 weeks have anything to do with it? Any ideas?

With the new rim did they give you a new TPMS?
Drive the car the light should turn off-- it could take some time so be patient.

I dont think so, it looks dirty so i'm assuming its the old one. So far i've driven 120+ miles with it and about 2 hours or so. I'll give it a week or so before I go trying to figure out what it is. My dad mentioned something about the spare. Does the spare tire have a sensor or no? My sisters truck has one on the spare and thats why her light came on. Does the 8s spare? I didnt check since he mentioned it.
