Parkway Accident Today 12-4-04

It did not happen to me, just going to start this so no one says anything. I went to a IS300 and WRX meet today (I have a friend who is has a turbo IS300) and a group of IS300 guys said that on their way to the meet, they saw a black RX-8 switching lanes real fast and then lose control and flip. This happened around exit 160 on the Parkway North side. I hope everything is ok. I apologize if this person didnt want this to be public.

how the heck would he flip by switching lanes? He had to hit something, or there is more to the story than that.

I was going to say that they drove the car off the road, but in looking up exactly where 160 is, I don't think that could be done there. I also can't see anyone making time around that area today because of shopping traffic. Let's hope it wasn't anyone we know and that everyone was OK. I also hope it wasn't cause by stupid driving.

the IS300 guys just said that he was switching lanes and then later lost control. i don't think it was from the switching lanes.

hey guys just want to fill you in.. that black RX8 that flipped over was ME. Just got back from the hospital a few hours ago. Got a head contusion (fancy word for a knot) and a bloody nose. I'm still truckin. Oh it was right before exit 143 in irvington north bound . I was on my way to work. I gotta check out my 8 tomorrow and see how much damage I have and how long it's going to take to fix. KEEP YOUR TRACTION CONTROL ON!!! It wont hapen to you. I was going to catch up with the IS300 and I was going from the left lane to the middle but some guy in a TL thought it was cute to cut me off. I floored it so I wouldn't hit him and when i went to straighten the wheel... the rear swung out and it sent me sideways into the grass. I tried to downshift in the grass to slow the car down (im going going to brake on grass cuz i could've gone any which way) just when I thought I was in the clear... BOOM!!!!... the goddam stormdrain bounced my car up to the high grass and flipped me over... I think I flipped about 2-3 times. I opened the door after the car stopped and crawled out. GUYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!!! It does save lives................ the 8 will be back.......

It's good to hear your OK , but it was dry all day today in Jersey so maybe it was more driver error / going to fast than DSC OFF?? How fast was that IS300 going Or were you trying to beat your past top speed ?

its a good thing that your okay. the IS300 guys were scared. While i was going to the meet, a mini van blew its rear tire and was going back and forth trying to gain control. he almost ran into me but i was able to get away just in time. not a good day for the rx-8. hope all is well BlackRotarySE3P

lol.. nah i wasnt trying to beat my old record ha ha ha... i did that on ocean parkway out on long island at 4 am with no cars anywhere. I was doing about 70 and about 80 when I cut... I know it was my error and not the car. if i had reacted more quickly i would be in this mess. i didn't think the rear would kick like that chaging lanes like that. i've done it before and had no problems.

------

well... things could be a lot worse... but i thank god all i walked away with was this bump on my head and the bloody nose. i will see if i get my car fixed or get my new 8 by the time of the next meet. My friend took a picture going to work he saw my car. i'll see if i can post it up.

any car that's flipped, regardless of end result, is almost automatically totaled.

BlackRotary,
Glad you are ok! :D

Sounds like the 8 did it's job and protected you from severe injury. There have been a number of accidents noted on the site. The ones I've come across ...the 8 has done a good to excellent job of protecting the driver and or passengers. Once you have had time to regroup let us know what if any airbags deployed, what you thought of the 8's safety features, and the condition of your 8.

Are you kidding me you walked away from that? Holy ****!! Holy ****!! I sure hope you have a follow up doctor checkup scheduled....you do don't you?

WOW I'm so glad you were alright. I can't imagine the shock you must have been/are in. Good grief. I drive 75 constantly here. How the hell did the rear swing out like that?

Good grief. I'm so glad you posted and are okay at this point. Please do fill us in as you learn more.

Did the airbags at least deploy in the accident? I've heard tons of reports of the airbags going off on extremely minor collisions and NOT deploying at all during the bad wrecks.

OH, I know the RX-8 is safe. But if you did get seriously hurt, and the airbags did fail to deploy.. you would have grounds for a decent law suit. But it's always better to walk away pretty much unscathed
