NYC: front plate back on
Driving without the front plate is no longer an option for me. No, I've never been stopped for not having one. But I hardly ever park on the street, and twice, when I have, I got ticketed.
Oh well.

I have never been stopped either and I have been going on a year and a half. I have only parked on the streets once or twice also for a short period of time. No tickets.
Someone was driving my RX8 and she stalled at a light and blocked traffic. I was the passenger. The cops gave her a ticket for the missing front plate

I'm getting a plate like this: http://www.swiftmotorsports.com/prod...8mfis50jfhuce0
I had this same issue. Best solution; out of state plates. 8)
I had the swiftmotorsport plate on like 2 years ago. I wen't threw 3 of them. They dont last long especially if you drive fast and your car is dropped like mine.

Unless i got screwed, in NJ its not secondary. Cop had nothing better to do.
There was talk of taking away the front plate in NJ for budget reasons. Hope they go through with it.

NYC is working hard at every possibility to ticket/issue fine to people.
Just look at the Quotas from cops a while ago, 1 week they have to write (each cop) at LEAST 150-200 ticket. Funny thing was they said they "don't have a quota" system. and this is just NYPD, not NYPD TRAFFIC, which the numbers could be double/triple.
When they can't reach their quota, guess what, they still give you a ticket and tell ya to "talk to the judge", what can we do? just eat it.

I'm finding this out. I installed the motorized version early spring this year. I don't mind it scrapping when it's dropped and up until around late August all was well. Eventually the frame (thin sheet metal) bent up and prevented it from moving. I'm going to use the motors and make my own frame work to mount it in the middle of the bumper to come out of a hatch opening for next year instead of running it down low.

Btw, all you NYC guys, heres a good one for you. So my gf's family lives in Manhattan and they also have a house in the catskills. Anyway, this week we are heading up there to spend the holidays with them. My gf drives an Impreza. Yesterday she asked me "are we taking your car or mine" .... ...

Oh yes. Hence the reason I have a court date two days after Christmas for making a turn on the turning lane with a green turning light. The cop supposedly said he is "helping" me out by writing me for turning on a red instead of turning on the "wrong lane". Well, I got a 100 something dollar ticket and 3 ******* points. Hurray.
Gotta love NY ******* PDs.

My hearing was at 1:00PM yesterday. There were no trains around my area and the roads were freaking packed with snow that wasn't plowed (THANKS BLOOMBERG!). I woke up at 7:00AM and began calling the Traffic Violation Bureau to see if they were open. No help what so ever and the hearing postponing line had a ******* busy tone. I called 311 and 411, also a waste of my time. I called the DMV, which was open but couldn't provide me any info. After finding out that the DMV was open, I assumed the TVB was also.
It was either wing it and hope that I can make it to the hearing by 1:00PM in Manhattan (I am located in Brooklyn), or have my license suspended on top of a $70 dollar fee, $270 for the ticket, and 3 points. It was 10:00AM, I walked over an hour in snow to the nearest working subway station, boarded two different and delayed trains, made it to the hearing location just in time.
The cop didn't make it and my case was dismissed. The trip home was almost just as awful, but I was filled with joy that I wasn't totally bent over by the law. I shouldn't even be happy because I was innocent in the first place and I had to go through all this trouble so I don't get fucked.
Edit: Sorry for the thread jack, I just had to rant

I live in upstate NY - Albany area. What are your suggestions for putting the plate on the car. It looks like ***, but I'd rather not get a ticket. Front driver side of car or the swift motor plate?
