No, its not that the my stock coils are dead or anything. I think there's an inadequate connection somewhere when I installed my ignition coil upgrade. Possibly an inadequate ground. Symptom is that the car misfires at around 10psi. It used to be grounded more poorly and misfired during free revving, it improved a lot when I moved the ground to a better spot (now misfires at 10psi instead of all the time). But when the weather gets nicer I am going to solder in a wire to give me the length needed to ground it to the negative battery terminal. That might do the trick. If not then, I probably made poor solder connections on the other wires and will have to redo them.

I will have to say though, as much as I support Esmeril, I gotta say I wish I got the BHR coils instead. Those don't need any soldering, and the grounding wire is far longer.

Yeah - there are a few "grounding kits" which for 90% of the people who put them on do very little if anything at all, people think they just look badass. But if you're getting misfires, and moving some grounding wires around a bit helped, then you can be pretty sure that a few more well-placed grounding wires would help a lot.

THEN we can work on your coils? :-)

I don't think anything is wrong with my coils, just got to wire it better. In any case, I can't boost my car with my snow wheels on. Those wheels can't handle it, starts to break loose and misbehave. So I'm in no rush to fix it cuz I'll need to keep those wheels on for a while.

Hey Gamechld is your misfire on decel or when it spools up? my car had a misfire and thats what made my motor go. check your plugs too. a bad plug or a bad coil can pop your motor. mine had a misfire for a while from a bad coil. At 1st i didn't think it was the coil because at hi rpm the car ran fine. An most of the time if a coil is bad when its on load it should misfire more an make the car run sh!ty.

I definitely don't have the time to do it for you, but if you're around some time I could show you what I did. Not gonna write out all the details here, but I put in an HD radio, line in for my mp3 player, and a splitter / equalizer unit to link them.

If all you want is the MP3 player input, you can do it yourself for about $100, it'll take about 1 to 3 hours, depending on how comfortable you are with taking apart some of your interior.

Basic Idea:

1) Buy this which converts Mazda's proprietary stereo out put into a somewhat more common "Alpine" format connector.
Link: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=445

2) Buy this which converts that "alpine" connector into a regular mini stereo plug, which will go into your MP3 player.
Link: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=767
If you are using an actual iPod and not some other mp3 player, use this instead:
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=884

3) Pull your stereo out of your dash using steps 1-6 from the below website. DO NOT do the steps after that, they are for something entirely different.
Link: http://whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/

4) Plug the PIE adaptor into the aux/cd port in the back of the stereo, and mount the adaptor itself somewhere under the dashboard with zipties. Snake the stereo cable under the shifter/middle-console area and have the plug pop out by the cup holders.

Enjoy....

Its like the car hits a limit. When it spools up to 10psi, it like hits a limit and stops making power. That's what I am calling misfire (maybe im using the wrong word, maybe spark blowout is what I mean). These coils are new, and so are the spark plugs, but I suppose something could be defective. Is there a way to test coils and plugs? But like I said, immediately after putting in the ignition coil upgrade, I was getting that problem on free revving and the car was almost undrivable. After moving the coils' grounding wire, it improved to no problem until 10 psi. I theorize that if I ground it directly to the battery, I should be in the clear.

Ok thats good to know. Its not good that your car isn't running right but good that your not having the same prob I had. I just didn't want your motor to go like me.

On another note: SIX TO NINE INCHES OF SNOW expected tomorrow afternoon/evening! First big snowstorm with my snow tires and I really cant wait to get tail-happy ;-)

Anyone else (with snow tires obviously) want to do some suburban snow drifting tomorrow late afternoon? I'll be going out around 4 or 5, should be excellent. I mostly want someone who can take some sweet videos... I'm in middle/western suffolk county.

The step by step instructions with pictures can make a job like that idiot proof. There really isn't anything there you can screw up that will mar your interior. I installed a lotek gauge pod in my car, and that involved cutting a hole in a dash panel, and even THAT was pretty idiot proof. All the wiring and aesthetic defects are all hidden behind the radio or cigarette lighter. Just watch where you leave your soldering iron lying around, that's the only thing you can mess up :-P

Congrats on the speeding ticket, I guess that puts you in Nassau.

Are you the Yellow 8 that I've seen on the Meadowbrook that sounds like a perfectly tuned race car? If you are, congrats on having an awesome car too.
