If this helps at all, I actually stumbled on the definition of such weather reports a few weeks ago.

30 - 40% chance of rain

means...

Under the weather conditions (humidity, temp, wind speed, etc...) observed/predicted, 30-40% of the time it has rained somewhere in the forecasted area

And if this forecasted area is "Boston and Vicinities" (it is based on radar location normally), then the chance of rain on us is actually quite low.

On alternate dates, I am...
out to Lime Rock May 22nd +3
Autocross June 27th
Busy on June 28th

scattered dates beyond that. Prefer spring though.

NOTICE

I spoke with Dana at Synaptic3 earlier today and we are going to postpone the cruise and the BBQ meet. As of right now, we are planning on having it on a weekend in July. I will post up the information once we settle on a date.

I will post up a new thread and have it stickied once we settle on the final plans.

The plan is staying the same with the times, meeting places, and route as of right now. The only thing we are planning on changine is the date.

i apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see you all at the event in July.

Too bad we had to do this. But July looks good and I would like to see some more interest in this run.... Maybe about 40 cars? Thats manageable.

I got my car out of the shop today. Seems as though when the clutch was lowered the eccentric shaft was bumped and through off the timing causing the mis fire.

Anyway. I can only do it on the first weekend of July....everything else is out for me
(I'm getting married...hard to skip :P )

June, August???

Aaaaachhhh!!!! it never fails. you trust the weather channel and it turns out to be a great day out.

i am truly sorry i canceled. it was a 3 hour trip to get there and a $250+ weekend, so i wanted to guarantee the weather didnt ruin it for us. We will have a date and make the second attempt better then the first as Synaptic3 is going to be working with us more for promotion of the event.

we'll see you in July. ill post up a new thread when we have the new details.

can everyone please post up what weekends would work for them in July. thanks.

Never trust the weather channel... if only we all could have jobs where we are allowed to be wrong like 80% of the time! But your heart was in the right place

Avoid around the 4th of July (for obvious reasons) and otherwise I think I'm available most of the rest of the month at this point... July is a pretty hot time of the summer for a drive though... and I don't know about the 7's, but our 8's don't have the strongest AC units in the world...

No plans that I know of in July, but the 4th is a Thursday so the following weekend (6th & 7th) would probably lead to a lousy turnout.

thanks for your understanding, Tigger. hindsight's always 20/20. we won't make the same mistake next time. it will be on rain or shine regardless of what the weather channel says.

i hear you about the A/C during the hot months. i actually yanked my A/C out, so hot days and traffic are never good for me. i can suffer through it though, as the drive should easily help me to forget about it. It is only going to get hotter as the days progress until September... what to do what to do... there is an awesome natural water slide on the Kanc, so if it gets too hot I would be up for a detour.

The weekend after July 4th is definitely not going to happen. How about the weekend of July 17th-19th? any objections?

the sooner we can agree upon a date, the sooner we can finalize plans.

Just to clarify, the event is going consist of everything that the first attempt did. Same meeting places, same route, same times, etc. Ian worked very hard on making an efficient route with times and places that worked well with eachother, so i don't see a point in changing them. The BBQ with Synaptic3 will still be going on, and since they will have more time, Dana told me he will make it better then how it would've been.

The BBQ should be the same set up with obviously the BBQ and food, the raffle and giveaway, dyno, shop tour and Synaptic3 info session, and general meet and greet.

I am going to see about getting a DJ for the event (as my roommate is a pretty good DJ and will have a brand new Mazda 3 that he would love to drive all over and would possibly be in for this.) Would you guys be interested in keeping this as just a hangout or would you want to turn it into a car show or any other type of event? My theory on car shows is that it gets a bit personal, and obviously critical. this could take out the fun of the event and lead to problems. But if you guys want it, we can see about making it happen.

On to old news, does anyone want a T-shirt? I can take pre-orders and bring them to the event or i can mail them to you (with you paying shipping) before the event. I am going to be ordering a couple for myself soon, so let me know.

Any other suggestions, complaints, comments, positive constructive criticism, etc. don't hesitate to give it. This is our meet collectively, I am not in charge but here for guidance. It is up to us all to make the first Kancamagus Rotary Run as good as we can.

Good timing. I believe initial discussion for this year's run started yesterday. It is definitely something we want to do.

Definitely going to happen. Like RIWWP said, we just literally started organization yesterday. OtakuRX is taking the reigns for the most part; but this year is shaping up to be better then last year... And last year was awesome!

Keep your eye out for a new thread soon. Glad to see the interest.

Hey everyone,

Real sorry I had to bail on last year due to my broken shoulder.

I was going to respond to this that I wouldn't mind trying to put one together for late summer but I think the ball is already rolling.

My shoulder is mostly healed. Still have some range of motion limitations but I can drive!

I am headed to the dragon again this year because last year was such a blast. Please let me know on dates ASAP. Already had to bail on OCC run (June 4 & 5) and the Cape Cod run (May 1st) due to scheduling conflicts.

Please let me know, as I still have last year's box of goodies to bring.

My car will also be more modded which is ALWAYS good. Just installed new Tanabe Pro 5 Coil Overs and GT Spec Strut Bar. What a difference!

Any help I can be let me know.

Thanks! Ian

From memorial day weekend to the last weekend of June, the only weekend I have free is the 12th/13th, then I have the July 10th/11th weekend free in July, till August.

Well, aren't you high maintenance.

May is a pita anyway b/c it's graduations followed by Memorial Day weekend. And it rains alot. June 12/13 makes for nice weather before it gets really hot.

Yeah I know.

If my engine fails compression tests (see B@W thread), then that might throw a wrench in things as well, if it was earlier. Later would probably be back in the clear. If I get a new engine, I am going to break it in over a weekend intentionally. IF I don't, it won't happen properly.

Hey, ya I'm working on a few route ideas and I'll have links to google maps of them soon enough. Summer dates sound great and can plan accordingly, avoid hi-tourist areas ya know.

Also I brought this up last Sunday when I met with RIWWP, RotaryAmuse and DMC, what would ppl think about a climb up the Mt Washington Auto Road? I did this before and with how the parking decks are setup you can easily look down to the cars and off the mountain for amazing pictures (I'll dig up my old ones). If there is interest I'll look into rates and so on, and depending on size there may be group rates. Anyway, more to come.

PS: Once I get back from a trip to NY this weekend I'll get a new thread up on here and the RX-7 club if there isn't one already and use that for the new discussion.

Mt. Washington would be cool but I worry about the time it would eat up. Especially the time it would eat up stuck behind minivans looking to earn their

well it's something worth looking into, the photo op would be amazing and the roads to and fro are very fun / scenic. Normal rates are $23 for car and driver, passengers are an additional $8. Now if we had a large enough group they offer Car Club specials, tho a min of 30 people or $690 is required. This gives the club exclusive access to the Auto Road in the after hours for a Sunrise or Sunset / Evening drive to the summit plus then you have the parking lot entirely for the club. This last option would be cool if there were enough ppl interested but I don't think there will be. Anyway, if it's a small enough group a little drive to the summit could be fun but either way I'm looking at some fancy routes out of the way of the hi-tourist areas. Going to start driving them in the coming weekends.

Edit: I may organize a separate multi-club Mt Washington Event so to meet the minimum requirement of 30 people. It'll be planned as an Evening / Sunset cruise to the summit with a photo shoot and all at the base and at the summit. I may contact a few pro-photographers to come out and actually do the shoot (have to see what I can do as far as that is concerned tho). But I'll post up about that at a different time.

Here is a link to the Auto Road page, specifically related to car clubs, look at the shot of the Corvette Club I think if those were all Mazda's it would be EPIC!! haha.

Let's set a date 1st and go from there. lol

My only concern with the Mt. Washington idea is the lack of numbers. We won't have enough to get the place to ourselves and that means we're paying $23 to follow a group of grannys in the K-Cars up a nice mountain road.

I'd rather run back and forth on the Hurricane a few times and spend that money on some for of cooked pig!

whatever poon.

It's not that I'm worried we can't go racing up at breakneck speeds. It's that I'm worried we will have to roll 7.6 miles at 15 mph behind the tourist crowd or hiker shuttle.

The anti-social in me will always want to avoid the tourist trap on a Saturday afternoon, though. lol

haha. understandable Dennis. Rod Millen can do mountain climbs in rotaries; why can't we? Lets set the date first and get all suggestions going.

One day or Two? Anyone up for trying to set up a Synaptic3 BBQ day as was planned last year? T-shirts? Any suggestions from last year or anything that you want to see again from last year? In my opinion, last year was a lot of fun; but I am sure we can find ways to make it better.

Things to consider:
Hurricane Mountain Road
Kancamagus Highway
Bear Knotch Road
Synaptic3 Shop Tour / BBQ / Dyno Day
Mazda Support
Shop / Manufacturer sponsorship (give aways, raffles, discounts.)
Mazda Tech Demo (not sure if we can pull this off, but can look into what we can get)
Mt. Washington Hill Climb
Hike / Swim / Nature
BBQ / Picnic
Dinner Locations
Specific roads in the area that you think would be good
What clubs to invite? RX-7Club / RX-8Club +? (note the less the easier to manage, but the more the merrier)

It looks like sometime in June might be the best option; but if you are interested in going, please post up when you can make it and we'll have to see what dates work for all of us.
