I spotted you in Manch-Vegas!

Around 11:15am I spotted Lil Red driving down S. Willow St. as I was pumping gas at the Mobil station next to Circuit City. Don't see too many Copper Red 8's around

Your front grill looks great! A license plate sure would spoil that, huh?

Yeah <knocks on wood> I haven't been bothered since day one of ownership with no plate.

Just don't go out-of-state like that. I can tell you from personal experience that cops in other jurisdictions are not so forgiving...

Well so far I've gone to MA, VT, CT, and ME with no issues as of yet.

Maybe you've got the luck (mine's terrible)! I can personally testify to cops in NY, NJ, & MD not being so lenient.

How do they know if NH requires a front plate? Some places in MA don't need front plates while other places don't. How can law enforcement from other states "know" another states statues?

State/local police officers don't know other state's laws and don't care to know. If you are driving a car in their state on their roads you are bound to obey their motor vehicle laws. Hence, the need to know the laws in the different states you drive in falls on your shoulders as the motor vehicle operator.

Actually, in MA it all depends on which plate you have, the old red/white one or the newer green/white.

Giles got nailed in his S on his way to the shop to get the plate installed. He had just gotten the new nose put on and the bracket came separately. The cop let him off with a warning but gave him a really hard time about it! ("Are you trying to pull a fast one on me?!") Stuff like that! We live in the sticks, thought, where they really don't have anything better to do most days than to bust ya for the small stuff. In Manchester they have much bigger issues to deal with, so you can probably get away with it longer.

I wish I'd gotten a picture of it. Our police station sign board once read:
"Speed trap this weekend. Guess where!"
That's the kind of town we live in!

I'm sorry but there is no way this can hold water. Some states in the US DO NOT require front plates, but if you happen to be driving through a state the requires them, you can get a ticket? I call BS!! I'd like to see that particular state's statues regarding this issue.

If I ever got a ticket in another state I'd fight it tooth and nail, but that's just me. Can't say much in our state since we require a front plate...

Look it up for yourself. Like I said earlier - already been there and done that myself.

I've been driving my Miata since 93 with no front plate and I have never been pulled over and I've hit practically every state on the east coast in it and no issues. Time and experience will tell...

Voodoo is right and wrong at the same time Kev
Pretty much goes like this.. in some states (now most states) they require you to have 2 plates (why I dont know most likely a $$$ issue I bet). Problem was alot of the older cars didnt or never had the front braket for the plate so a rule or a loophole if you will was made. That of if you have a older plate you dont need a front plate.

In MA our newer ones are the White back, red letters (like mine) I'm required to have both plates on if not I could get a ticket (for those officers to bored to do real policing). But if I had one of the old White'sh/grey backround Green lettered ones I could go with only a back plate. Stupid Silly maybe but that is MA for ya. I believe most states operate like this. If your ever in another state and get pulled over for it specificly just play it off and say "Oh our state doesnt require it officer." More often than not you wont get a ticket and if you did I'm sure it wouldnt go against your record.

Anyone know why they have that stupid law anyways?? Not like if a car is running you over your gonna stop screaming or fearing for your life to take note of the lisence plate lol.

Edit:One thought just occured to me for this um "rule/law" theft. Officer's might be able to target a stolen car quicker if it only has one plate instead of two. Theives usualy do things quickly and stealing one plate instead of two may give them a few days of enjoyment out of a stolen plate than if they stole both plates, yanno person who owns said car would notice right away and report the plates stolen. I dunno thought just popped in my head.

Thanks Kev for the clarification on the plate thing in MA. I guess I'll take my chances and ride both cars without front plates.

Just a thought ... if you live in a state that only requires one plate and therefore only issues one plate, how can a state requiring two plates give you a ticket if you don't even own two plates?

Since I live in NH, it's not an issue for me, but this got me thinking.

A good place to start your research is the following web site:
http://www.dmv.org/

For NH, you can eventually drill down from here to get to specifics for us. In particular, you might try this link and look for the Q&A on the # of license plates to be displayed: http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/d...n/faq.html#A11

Thanks for the info, VooDoo. It's like 12:30am right now, so I'll read it at a more decent hour.
