i have a question, i already have my license plate, but how much would it cost to get new plates in New Jersey? i heard it was 50 when you buy the car, and 150 afterwards. if its 150 i think im gonna get it.

Why are you asking us? Wouldn't it be easier to ask the New Jersey registry bureau? You'd be far more likely to get the correct answer, too! :D

You're willing to pay $150 up front for vanity plates? Don't forget to check what the yearly fee(s) are to keep the plates...

What are you hoping to put on the plates?

In NJ it only costs $50 bucks to make them if of course they are not taken. dont have to pay yearly for them at all. Go to the MVS (DMV) and get a form for them.

Just an FYI you are 47% more likely to get your car keyed in Jersey if you have a custom/vanity plate.

I got the law enforcement memorial plates for NJ. Cost an extra $50 a year.. so far they have gotten me out of a 20 over speeding ticket and nobody bothers me for not having a fton plate.. I think it's worth it.

Where did you get that? Can you retrofit that to your existing plate??

no no.. you have to go into the MVC (formerly the DMV) and ask about it. They will have a sample hanging on the wall somewhere. You'll get a new registration card which shows the change of plate. It was a very busy day when I went, but I was in and out in 30 minutes. Getting the plates is simple and easy, I didn't even have to show the 6 points of ID. Just need your old registration and drivers license, pay the $50 and out the door you go..

Here's a link to the NJ MVC page regarding the law enforcement memorial plates.

So its $50 one time fee plus a $10 annual renewal fee. And you get a different licence number from your old plate too?
