Thoughts on this? I think this is going to create more traffic...

 

i know other states already have it but i think that's crap. i tend to speed but only when conditions permit me to do so. i know it's not right but i don't usually go more than 15 mph than other traffic/speed limits but even these would land me tickets. i just hope they keep this to 91 and 95 rather than the parkways.

 

I agree... this is really going to suck. Lets hope they keep it to problem highways such as 91 and 95. 95 is a liability in itself I don't know how much help this will give....

 

Maybe they could reduce the number of accidents by actually finishing the perpetual roadwork. Then teach you Connecticunts how to drive. I've driven the entire eastern seaboard and I think the old folks in Florida are the only competition for the "most likely to be in the passing lane without passing other traffic" award.





But seriously, I loath the idea of any camera installation. Speed is not the only factor in crashes, yet there's never any discussion of busting the poor drivers who are road hazards with their cell phones, failing to signal or even look before changing lanes, travelling in the passing lane, etc. Ticket the people who pay no attention to the road, especially since I have yet to see a car NOT speeding on 95.

 

Agreed. Careless drivers (drivers who could care less about paying attention to anything around them) are far more dangerous and costly than aggressive drivers.

"Speed is a factor" whenever there is a collision, because if neither car was moving, they wouldn't have touched.

How about we just ban cars completely? A ban probably wouldn't work, so we will have to legislate them into oblivion. Oregon is doing that, so we can see how it works out, but...

We could let the rest of the auto industry follow the "Big 3" into the galactic toilet, save trillions on road repair, instantly make the ozone whole again, and stop hundreds of thousands of deaths every year! We would have to make everyone walk, since it would be inhumane treatment to horses to go back to horseback or buggies for transportation. Of course, walking has it's own dangers, like sprained ankles, exposure to excessive cold or heat, etc... so we are going to have to legislate laws around when and where people can walk. Of course, there will be people that walk too fast, so we will have to install pedestrian speed cameras with facial recognition to put a stop to that. And please, don't say anything about people that just shuffle along with no sense of purpose or direction. They have that right, and you must follow along behind them like a good little lamb without trying to pass them.

Of course we will have people that act out. You know, walking while drunk, excessive sidewalk changes, not using hand signals when they are going to turn, using unapproved shoes, consuming unapproved metabolic enhancers. For these people, we will have to fit them with a big nose ring and a cow bell around their neck as part of their "rehabilitation" process to get them to fit in with the rest of the cattle society.

Death happens. Maybe I am morbid, but if death didn't happen, we would be literallly filling the planet solid worth of people. As medicine and doctors and whatever improve, the lifespan improves. If it were unchecked somehow (And it is mostly unchecked), there would be massive overpopulation issues. The world has to correct itself somehow, and I believe that is why we have new sources of death and disease constantly. I think the route is a bit more indirect than that, but too much of anything is not a good thing, and that included people! The more crowded we are, the more diseases can react and spawn, the more people will live in high risk disaster areas, the more cross culture interaction (which while a good thing...) which often leads to wars from misunderstanding, etc...

People die. It happens. It HAS to happen. Legislate them all if you want, but in the end, you are going to be killing people with the legislation itself. You can't legislate death out of life, you can only make life not worth living, which guess what happens then?

Precisely so. Name any government that ever voluntarily decreases in either size or power, if you can. Besides, Connecticut has notoriously failed to be able to get even 50% compliance with posted speed limits on highways (so much so that Connecticut's US Senators had to lobby to remove an amendment some years back that would have withheld Federal highway money from states unable to achieve 50% or greater compliance).

 

All I know, is if you have out of state plates driving on an interstate in CT, hands @ 10 and 2 and follow the speed limit to the digit. Got pulled over once by a state trooper outside of hartford, had 10 other cars pulled over, all w/ non CT plates, and CT plate cars are whipping by us at mach 3. And I was only 5 over the limit.

If Letterman can't beat a speeding ticket in that state, I can't either, so I just paid it to be done with it.
