I have a 04 RX8 with low compression, I pulled the motor and plan to rebuild. know there are others around in my town, a black one, and a Yellow one (getting LS1), not sure if anyone on here owns them. Anyways, I'm looking for someone who wants to work with me on the teardown/rebuild of my engine. I broke my neck on the racetrack so I cant physically do the work right now, and don't want the project to stall for the next three months as I recover. I have friends and family that will help, but if there is another local enthusiast that wants to get their hands dirty it would be fun.

Looking to do a stock rebuild, with possibly some modifications inside the engine bay (air pump delete, SOHN adapter, TB coolant blockoff etc.).

Thanks

Never seen a yellow, but I see a black series 1 parked next to the Bach Dor all the time. What town are you in?

I'm in Chaplin, that's the black one I was referring too. The yellow one is in Mansfield, owner is selling drivetrain on craigslist as he is swapping in LS1.

You must live close if you use the bach dor as a landmark LOL.

Yup, Hampton. I'll admit that I can work on cars but I usually take a hell of a long time to do even small jobs, pretty much to double check that I didn't forget an intermediate steps. So not sure if you want me to assist in a rebuild. Also, checked on craigslist and according to the guy doing the swap in Mansfield, the engine needs "water seals"(coolant seals maybe?) so no luck there for a quick drop in replacement.

Well, I don't really need additional help, but figured that other rx8 owners in the area may benefit from my lessons learned (mistakes) rather than their own. Also looking for people with knowledge of the forum and information I have yet gleaned from the site, like what is COBB? etc. I'll be tearing the motor down tomorrow afternoon in Woodstock with my brother. phase 1 is to build an engine stand adapter. Phase 2, disassemble and organize parts, determine cause of loss of compression. Phase 3 go home and order parts.

Keep me posted either here or via Private Message(PM). I'm busy today, but I'd enjoy coming down and maybe taking some pictures of the progress for you and going over general knowledge I've picked up. Also, the COBB AccessPort(usually abbreviated AP) is a ECU reprogramming unit, that connects to the vehicle through the OBD-II port under the steering wheel. It allows you to change various maps for tuning purposes and can measure/log data from the ECU.
