Any good dealers in DC area?

Can anyone recommend me a good dealership? Also, if I order now, how long do I have to wait? I'm looking to buy a new car during summer and I can't wait any longer than until mid-August... Thanx.

While I don't know of any in DC, I was treated very well by my dealer in Richmond, if you don't mind the drive. They've still got something like 20 RX-8s available(at MSRP) out of their allocation. If you can't find a decent dealer up there, pm me and I'll send you all the info for them.

I ordered at Fitzgerald Mazda in Frederick, MD. The salesman didn't know much about the car, but they have a great reputation in the area. I have a Mazda dealership in my town, but drove the 30 extra miles to deal with them.

I also ordered mine from Fitzgerald. I originally started my order with a cute blonde that seemed to be into cars quite a bit, but she's gone, I've been dealing with Ray since her departure who is now I think the gen. sales mgr. Mike - are you the 'Beard' on one of the 2 silver Tourings on order there? I'd recommend them also - they have a Yel on Blk GT , Red on Red/Blk GT, and perhaps another Sil Touring ordered - not sure are spoken for. That's from the first allotment - I'm not sure what they ordered in #2 and #3. MSRP.

My RX-8 is on order at Brown's of Alexandria. MSRP and no dealer prep charge, $1000 deposit.

They have 24 cars on order. Only one-third are spoken for. The rest they ordered in colors/options of their choosing and I assume you can lay claim to one if you wish.

There is also a Brown's dealership in Fairfax. Don't have numbers ordered for them. Apparently, all the folks that pre-ordered in Fairfax wanted the Navigation system and no one wanted it who pre-ordered in Alexandria.

Brown's Alexandria is hosting a tech session for the Mazda Sportscar Club of Washington (MSCW) April 16th. They're being nice to me because I have the car on order

By the way, this dealership also has the only Mazdaspeed showroom in the DC area.

Helllloooooooo! Yes, I am the Beard that you speak of. Nice to know my order confirmation has been seen by an outside party.

I've been dealing with Annie since I ordered mine. She seems to be the one that submits the orders and such. The salesman that took my info and deposit wasn't well informed about the car.

They didn't include my email addy with my order. After I called a few weeks ago, she said she would try and add it. Haven't gotten anything from Mazda yet. Other than that, they have been very friendly and helpful.

-$500 deposit fully refundable after test drive
-MSRP

rx8daniel- Have they given you any delivery date info? Last I heard was July or August.

The copy I have (from 2/4) of the inventory report only showed TBD for delivery w/ build of April,1st week. I'm still guessing late May...I haven't asked for an update lately. I believe Annie is the Mazda sales manager - or the sales manager of that side of the dealership (VW,Mazda,Saab). FWIW, I plan to be on hand when they roll off the truck as I live/ work less than 2 miles away.

Try Darcars in Maryland. I had very good experience purchasing my wife's 1999 Millenia from them. I will purchase my RX-8 from them also.

You'll want to check out Malloy Mazda in Woodbridge Va.
I buy all my rx7 parts there. They have the best pricing for stock parts. I asssume that they will be pretty good with sellingthe 8 as well.

Put down $1000 fully refundable deposit for a yellow 8, no frills. Sales guy was very professional. They even updated me to say 1 month delay from late Jun to late July. I'm guessing August, tho.
Guy is Kunal Mitra @ Fitzgerald automall in Annapolis.
mitrak@fitzmall.com
Need to ask if any 'pre-sale' vehicle slots open; each dealer is only getting about 6 the first go-around. Much later for balance.
They are committed to only charging MSRP, which is about as good as it will get. good luck.

I took Rikki up today to deposit $2,000 on his lighting yellow. They gave him a killer deal. Very nice and friendly staff. It was the Mazda dealership in Tysons Corner Va.
I dont remeber their specific name.

here's the reason

Back in 2000, I bought my Protege from Rosenthal. The shopping experience was terrible, to say the least. Not only were they playing games with me during the bargaining, when we finally agreed on a sales price (after some painful and heated exchanges), they kept me waiting in the finance office for 4 hour for no apparent reason, when it should have taken them MUCH MUCH less time than that to get all the paperwork taken care of and ready to sign.

Basically I can no longer trust the service of their sales staff and their financing office. I'll buy my RX-8 from one of the many other Mazda dealers in the area where I won't be put to playing games with the salesperson and their manager

The only reason I still bought from them is because I needed a car ASAP at that time, and we did agree on a very good price for the Protege, but it took all my efforts and bargaining skill (more like yelling and screaming) to get it. So if you don't mind all the troubles, I guess you can shop at Rosenthal.

btw, I heard rumors that Rosenthal had affiliations to organized crime....?

I was just wondering which of the Rosenthal's you were talking about. I believe there is one in Tysons Corner and another in Arlington near Ballston Commons. I've been talking with a guy named Ted there for about month, and he seems helpful, but if the actual buying experience is terrible there I may go someplace else. Let me know. Just trying to find the best place to buy from with the least amount of problems.

Rosenthal wouldn't budge on the price when I was in the market a month ago. Like the previous poster, only go there if you have to. There are plenty of other dealers that are willing to negotiate. Also avoid Koons at College Park. I walked into the door with a check in my hand for the the RX-8 and they refused to sell it to me for the price we previously agreed upon. They didn't want to repair 2 dents on the side of the car.

couple 8's available

The Fitz Mall store near me in Frederick has as of yesterday - a red GT 6sp w/red/blk int, a blue GT 6sp w/ aero, and a tit grey w/ GT w/blk int ; also a blue w/ a damaged hood awaiting a new hood. They are selling 300 under MSRP via the 'net.

Rosenthal Arlington

I ordered my Nordic Green / Chap. GT on January 9 from Rosenthal Arlington Mazda for MSRP (telephone handshake deal) and took delivery July 21. No funny business or attempt to change the deal whatsoever. The Internet salesman, Abed, kept me informed of what he was hearing about delivery. After I took delivery I noticed a ding in the roof panel just above driver-side doors. I dropped off the car and Abed took it to Tysons to the paintless ding-puller (who he'd thought would be in Arlington that day), waited for it to be fixed, filled it up with gas, and had it for me by the end of the day. No discussion of charge or paperwork.

I had bought a PR5 for my son there the previous year as an "Internet" customer; when I came in I had the pick of their stock or on-order vehicles at the Internet price with benefit of all promotions. So I maintained that status by calling the "Internet salesman" on phone for the RX8. In their showroom, of course, the RX8 had about 2K of additional markup on the sticker, but don't know how they've negotiated. Maybe I've been well treated because this is my 4th purchase there since 1987 (1988 626 5-door turbo, which we still have and love).

There is one little game some of the dealers have played on the internet. If you check the MSRP on the Mazda site it 'includes' destination charge (usually $520). When you go to a dealer's site, the internet price may 'exclude' destination charge. So at first glance it looks like the price is a few hundred below MRSP.

I bought my 8 at Rosenthal's. The buying experience went fairly quick. It took a little argueing for them to give me anything on my trade but eventally they gave in. Wasn't able to get much less than MSRP, but did get them to take off all the extra dealer stuff they wanted to charge for which was a little over a grand. My sales guy was great. Financing was quick and painless. The only reason I started there was they were the only ones to have all the options I wanted and color. So I guess they were kind of an only choice when I went to buy mine. The only bad thing was I watch them sell 2 of them why I was there and had one other person there looking at them about ready to buy. Maybe thats why they didn't give me much less than MSRP. They also gave me oil changes for two years and the safety/emissions for the time I own the car which for me will only be three years since I will be hopefully going back to Hawaii then.

I have bought parts from Malloy Mazda for my 8. They were great and I would definitely go to them again.
