I have an appointment to take the 8 in to Fred Vincent tomorrow for the tail light condensation TSB.
Hopefully things go a little better this time.

Sooo..... Nelson Ledges Fun Day is friday. Anyone else here going besides me and docgatorx8er
It would be cool if we had a bunch of RX8's on the track at once.

Here's a brief rundown:
Basically, all of the attending cars are seperated into a few groups. Each group is allowed to run on the track for 20-25 minutes sesions, alternating who is on and off the track. It's not a race, it's just getting to run all out in a safe environment.
Gates open at 8:00am (that's when I plan to get there). I'm pretty sure there's a driver's meeting shortly there after where they tell you the rules and such. The driving starts at 10:00am and goes until 4:00pm.
The cost is $120 to drive and $5.00 for a passenger. To me it's well worth it. If anything, come up just to spectate. It'll cost you $5 to spectate, but maybe we could could take a group car photo or something korny like that .
You do need a helmet for drivers and passengers. A motorcycle helmet is ok as long as it's SNELL rated. There's also some clothing requirements that are listed on the webpage, although it's just long sleeved shirts, pants, etc.
I hope that helps.

That sounds like so much fun. I can't believe I didn't know about that. Some guy was telling me that I needed to be in a car club, like the BMW car club and then pay something like 350.00 to go to mid-ohio on an open track day. I didn't realize that there was a track so much closer to my house! Now I just have to beg the wife... Probably won't happen this year though, I just got a PS3, so I can't ask to go and do this. ...oh well, beggers can't be choosers.

Here's what you tell her:
"Honey, the RX8 is a highly tuned track car that requires meticulous care. Included in it's preventative maintenance schedule is track time. I have to go to the track on friday, otherwise my car might die."
That should do the trick. If not, cough up $5 to spectate.

That might just work...
Well, it won't happen this month anyway, I'm down in NC this week and won't be home until Friday Night.

Just an FYI but anyone can participate in the Porche or BMW club driving school events at Nelson's. I was at the Porche one 2 years ago. Great time and I learned a ton about my car (bought some Hawk brakes the next day ). My buddy and his whole family are instructors so they tipped me onto it. I think it was ~$250 for 2 days on the track. They split it out into 4 groups and A&B go out for a session, then C&D go out for a session, then the instructors get to go out for a session.
If you really want to learn about your car I'd definitely recommend it and the 8 doesn't look at all out of place on a track with a bunch of Porches (Porchi?). There were plenty of other cars including an rx7 that was race-modified. The guy who did it was (is?) an engineer and did all the modifications himself. He was able to go toe to toe with my buddies track-only Vette. Nothing like seeing an RX with flames shooting out the exhaust to make you realize how much fun these cars can really be.
BTW I'm over in Brecksville in a dark green 04 and spend entirely too much time on 77 between downtown C-Town and the west side of Akron.
Next time I hear about an open club event I'll post it in here.
