Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.
Ok that's some classic **** right there. hahahaha
If he pops the MSM up on 3 wheels he'll probably **** his pants.
*Side note, I was tracking my gas mileage there and back, the first tank to get out there was 24.8 mpg ( 273.5 miles @11 gall to fill up). The second tank is even more impressive. I'm at 307 on the trip odometer and still have a 1/4 tank left. WOOT!!!

So after going to the VW BBQ that none of you attended last weekend we were all talking about how great it would be to do the same thing for the mazda folks. So after some talking it appears that some of the c6c members are going forward with the idea. Current date is July 11th and avoids all schedules that we know of. (NORA, SCCA, Grand-Am, etc) The event will be held at the Mentor Headlands as well as it seemed like a really really great place to have an event.

No. You may want to search in the competitive forum. I know Ulllose (sic) has posted weights before but that's for stripped BStock cars. Never had access to a corner scale.

I'll try to be there at 8 when the gates open. Car's already packed up and ready to roll with my race pads on but unpacking, cleaning, and putting on the comps is gonna take a solid hour+.
Tony you gonna run in the mid group if there are 3 groups tomorrow?

Ryan, it depends on what the groups look like, but more than likely I'll be in the middle group. I'll be there shortly after 9. I showed up there last year when the gates opened and ended up walking around for an hour. I really don't have anything to prep.

normal?
OK guys a bit of a newbie question here. I did some searching but cannot find exactly what I am experiencing. I have a feeling this is a standard among all 8's
I am getting white/greyish smoke out of the exhaust for a while before the car warms up. Once its warm the smoke goes away. I have no CEL's and it seems to be running just as well as it always has since I got it.
I have put about 1500 miles on it since I picked it up and just checked the engine oil level on thursday. I was about half way between the two lines, so I ended up adding a little less then 3/4 of a quart of castrol GTX 5w-20 (was recommended by mazda tech). Once I added it the level went back up to the top line.
I just noticed the smoke yesterday when I left it running as I checked my mail. I honestly dont know if it has always done this. I just checked the oil level after grabbing lunch at work (let car get to regular temp, then cooled for 5 mins, then checked level) and the oil level might have dopped a little less then 1/4 between the two lines.
Did i use the wrong oil?
My brain is telling me that this is common among RX-8's because of how the rotary consumes oil, but I'm also a bit paranoid.

I doubt its oil since you mentioned its a white/greyish color.
Oil tends to produce a blueish tint in the smoke and has an oily smell.
Have you checked the coolant level?
Do you sense a sweet smell in the smoke?
Could also be excessive gas, but you'll tend to smell that.

LOL
You can usually smell it without "sticking your face" in the pipe.
Curious... did you add the oil with a funnel or did you just pour straight down the filler neck?
Also, you really should be using at least 5w30.
I just picked up a couple bottles of Royal Purple 5w30 from Advance Auto for $6.99 a quart.
