RK:

Are you running a vac and or boost gauge on your setup? If so, where did you put the line, and did you stick with the nylon one?

What jon said (not quite I. The slopes yet. )

Just running NA. I won't go FI for at least another year and probably two. Click on my sig to see my garage and all the work that I've done on the car.

Threw a CEL late last night. CEL first came on blinking like crazy then switched to a static light afterwards and has stayed on since. Called mazda last night before they closed and got an appointment at the Park Mazda dealership on S. Arlington, in Akron for monday. in the meantime, went down to AutoZone to have them pull the code.

Cylinder 1 misfiring.

Could this lead to the Akron/Clev club's first engine swap? hmm... Doubt highly it's the coils because they were replaced in Oct last year, along with plugs and wires.

Thoughts?

You'll know if the engine is toast (marbles in a can sound).
Our car does generate mis-fires all the time, you just never notice it because they are pending codes (won't illuminate a CEL) and then go away after a couple drive cycles.
I would check the spark plug wire boot attaching to the spark plugs because they are known for coming loose (especially the front).
Were you riding the car hard while it was still cold?

Yea...I would cancel the appointment with Mazda. It is going to run you $80 for them to tell you you had a loose wire or a bad plug. Also did you park your car for the winter, I cant remember? Might just be some bad gas with hard driving.

I agree Dana that it shouldn't be ignored...but to me the basics should be looked at before forking over the cache to the steelership.

A straight pipe is loud as ****. So bad you would probably need ear plugs when you drove it. A single resonated is also loud as **** but you can probably tolerate it. Dual resonated is louder but very tolerable. As for the O2 sensor that is in front of the cat...you need it to run. The one after it is to make sure the cat is working so you can do without it and mask the code with the AP.

yanked the battery to reset the CEL. drove it around for about 100 miles HARD and got not one single blip.

As for the blinking, it was only for about 15 sec or so then it stayed on full, never blinking again.

As for today's test though... i think 100 miles worth of hard driving with no CEL, kinda clears things up. at least for now. Will keep an eye on it though.

A blinking CEL will turn solid if your misfire doesn't go away. As for your theory of the issue being fixed...it takes drive cycles for the CEL to return, not distance.

uhhh......

If you put a cherry bomb on that car I will be forced to make it (the whole vehicle) disappear from your posession forever. Please, please, please: If you don't have the money to buy decent parts now, save your cash until you do. Don't turn your nice car into a ghetto cruiser. For another $300 you could have a really nice quality catback exhaust system.

Welcome to the club, by the way. While you're here, do some searching around to get some ideas on what performance mods you might like. Feel free to ask lots of questions too. Mostly everyone around here knows their stuff and are willing to help out.

That would be the one where the other day a guy shorted out his HU by doing it. Nope...I dropped the $100 and picked up the Axxess box.

Umm... yeah.
With electrical/mechanical knowledge... the sky is the limit on our car.
Just need some imagination.
You are talking to someone who creates a kill switch he is never going to use and is about to relocate the OBD-II port into the ash tray (hopefully).
Its all about looking at something and saying "I would like to do this" and figuring out how to do it.
Seriously... be creative if you're really into "hacking" stuff.
