I dont know if you guys know this (and maybe you do) but VA state troopers drive those on the regular in NoVA. Especially down by the Tv Station & Pentagon off 110.

The point is not that someone can or cant do 120 in a 35 zone. No one said it's impossible.

I did however, say that it would be impossible to get a ticket and then drive home after getting pulled over for doing such a thing. No cop would let SOMEONE DOING 120MPH in a 35MPH zone drive again. Suspended license immediately, trip to local police station, or get cuffed. Take your pick.

<rant> There are many places in this country that are perfectly safe to go many MPH over the speed limit that is posted. These places are in my opinion illegal speed traps. I know two places near my house that is a 4 lane divided highway with few turns and only a couple lights over a several mile span that is posted at 35mph. I have never seen anyone go through there less than 50 unless they were stopped at a stop light. If you doubt my story, try driving RT 13 between delaware and pennsylvania, and RT 291 between Trainer and Essington PA.

I've been passed by cops on both these roads when I was doing around 55, they were doing 65-70 without responding to emergencies, no lights, no sirens, just getting their cup of joe before everyone else. This kind of behavior by police officers really **** me off, because they are supposed to uphold the law, and if they are not responding to an emergency or making a stop, are required to abide by the same traffic code that we are, and if not, are required to alert others to their behavior by sirens and lights to reduce the risk posed to other traffic. If its safe for them to travel 30mph above the speed limit without sirens or lights to alert people to move out of the way, then it is safe for us to drive at least 20 miles an hour faster than the posted limit, which makes the limit invalid and illegal by most traffic codes in the US.

</rant>

I know for a fact that there are officers who will inflate charges when they pull people over just so the person they stop won't be able to plea it down to less than their actual offense in court. It happened to me. I was traveling between 70-80 mph in 6th gear (under 4000 rpms with cruise control on) going home at 2AM in a 55mph zone in West Chester, PA in light traffic ( rt 100 south right before 202 for those who are familiar with the area). I got stopped, the officer claimed that his colleague sitting in the bushes a half mile back had clocked me using an "Enrad" system at 103 MPH. I told him that was impossible, and explained that I had had my cruise control on at around 75. He writes out the ticket for 103 and marks on it that there was heavy traffic (at 2AM in the morning? I don't think so).

I took it to court and plead it down to 80 in a 55, but still felt raped by the system because I know that he inflated the figures, or the system was not calibrated properly. I had a lawyer with me, and he told me after the fact that he had had a huge spike in cases in Chester county where people were charged with tripple digit speeds on the road, and that the courts rarely let it go below a 4 point offense. His advice: don't drive through Chester county if you can avoid it.
