New Route Map!

Deslock... Great job posting the map from the original post. Here is the updated route to include Lake George.

Whiteface mountain sounds cool! If we have enough time that would be great.

rx8club being down for most of the day got me thinking; should we create an email list for this so we can still reach each other if there's a problem with this site?

I agree, this looks like a great route.

One option: The loop around Lake George could be cut off if you are running late. This is a great road, but the speed limit is 40-45mph and you can only see the lake in a few small spots after leaving Lake George Village.

Also, change the Maple Street address in Corinth, NY to "24 Stark Road, Corinth, NY 12822". That's where the free lunch will be waiting (and where I live, coincidentally)

So if people are ok with booking their own rooms that is GREAT! If you have already sent me a deposit then I can help in booking them OR I can just refund them to you/tear up the checks...

Please let me know.
doesn't matter to me. if you haven't deposited the check and want to tear it up that's fine. if you want to get us a block and need it to put down a deposit i'm fine with that too. let me know so that i can either call to make reservations before they fill up or what the plan will be.

No need to apologize DRK, you've been busting your *** for the whole thing.

makes no diff to me which way we go. I think it will be less BS for you, and prlly less chance of prbs w/the hotel trying to scam anyone b/c we were supposed to be 10 room, but we're only 9.

Note: I held on to my check once the hotel poll came up, so I'll hold it a few more days until this is decided.

I couldn't agree more. DRK took enough responsibility already. Let everyone fend for themselves on the hotel reservations - that way everyone is happy or can only blame themselves. There are so many hotel/motels in and around Lake Placid I am sure everyone will end up with someplace to sleep - even if its in their car with only significant others for warmth

Oh its possible - I guarantee it

I dunno if anyone has brought this up, but I noticed that the day1 route is 309 miles on the most recent map. We're probably looking at 7+ hours from Brattleboro to Lake Placid, depending on our pace and stops. I'm OK with that, though it seems a little on the long side to me (other RX8 and Miata drives I've gone on were a lot shorter than that).

For the second day, it's <200 miles back to Lebanon, NH. So I still think driving up Whiteface is doable that day, but that's a separate question that the group can decide later (especially since our day2 route is only 3 miles away from the Whiteface road).

So I guess I'm wondering how other people feel about shortening the day1 route. For example, this alternate day1 route cuts it from 309 to 237 miles (again, Brattleboro to Lake Placid). Or, cutting out Lake George would result in a 261 mile day1 trip.

However, I don't know the roads out there that well and on the one hand, I wouldn't want to miss out on some fun sections. On the other hand, it'd be nice to get to Lake Placid early enough to be able to relax and maybe hit the pool.

Just some thoughts... I'm not trying to take over the run or anything and I'll go along with whatever the group decides.

i hadn't really looked at how long it would be but that does look like a long first day. i'd like to get some good sites in but wouldn't mind having some extra time to enjoy the area and stretch the legs.

I had calculated the original map at 265 miles. I think DRK added Lake George in last minute. While it would be a nice view, it def. makes day 1 a long run.

Plus we have to tack on a few extra miles to & from Rx Eight 7s place (I think).

Wow, it is so cool that everyone is pitching in like this!! You guys are awesome!!

I PM'd DRK last night, but I know he is extremely busy with his business right now, so I'm going to go out on a limb and answer a few of the posts, to help him out a bit. Because he is so busy, I think it would be good to take up the offers that have been made to help organize.

Mendossa - I think an Excel spreadsheet is an excellent idea! Could you create one that has the following:
  • Meeting point/times
  • Meeting point contacts
  • MP Contact Cell #'s
  • Email addresses of attendees

My Z group organized an event one year, and because the site went down the day before and there was some questionable weather, none of us knew if the event was still on. Half the ppl didn't show up. So I think Deslock's suggestion of an email list in case the site wigs out is a very good one!

RxEight7s - You seem to know the area up there very well. Can you figure out how long the activities you listed would take? It looks like the first day will be meet-up and travel, but Saturday after lunch may work for an activity, and of course Sunday after breakfast. Could you work with Deslock and tighten up an activity schedule, then let Mendossa know so he can include it in the Excel doc?

I'm not good at time estimates, so if someone wants to tell me where on the route we will be around lunchtime on Sunday, I'll find a place for us to eat. Also, since ppl have started booking their hotel rooms, I would say that is what everyone should do. The latest poll shows 14 votes, 7 for the Summit and 7 for the Hilton. Someone said DRK has busted his a** putting this together and we should fend for ourselves on hotels, and I agree! He did not anticipate this event getting as big as it did, and it is awesome how everyone jumped right in to help! Let's book our hotels on our own and agree to meet up for dinner somewhere. Again, I'll find a place that can accommodate 30+ ppl and make a reservation, if everyone's ok with that. Or we can order pizzas and meet at one of the hotels. Thoughts? I can figure out a meeting place for Sunday morning to get us on our way again.

Again, not trying to take over, just trying to lend DRK a hand. I used to organize huge, multi-day events for the software company I worked for and I've helped put together a few events & drives for the Z club. Plus, I'm an at-home mom, so I have all the time in the world, right?!

I'll take care of the Cell # & email info. PMs pending to all on the list.

If you don't get a PM from me it means I hate you . . . no, wait, sorry - it means I must have missed you.

I'm going to work off the list of 31 attendees from pgrothe's post. If you're not on it PM me.

Looked through the thread, and I'll send PMs out to all - including the "maybes".

The only one on the list I don't see a username for is G-Force.

I'm OK with 300+ miles in one day. I have driven to Washington D.C. (650 miles) in one day before by myself, and that wasn't even interesting! I'll go along with whatever people want, but for me the drive is the best part of it all.

I'm fine with helping any way I can.

I would say just cutting out the Lake George loop would save almost 2 hours of driving (with no stops). Just substitute my address (24 Stark Road, Corinth, NY 12822) in place of the whole Lake George Loop. I'll take a shot at copying the map into the thread again with a shorter day 1 route, but no promises (I'm good with a wrench, but not so great with a mouse).

What I don't want to do is monopolize the route just because I know the roads. That's how people get pissed and I'm just here to offer insight and have a fun weekend.

I'm also trying to set up a "tour guide" to get you from Brattleboro to my house. My buddy from Nashua, NH wants to join us (If his work schedule allows) and he has made the trip from there to here hundreds of times over the last 10 years and knows the best and/or quickest roads.

I'm up for helping out in any way I can. I don't know the roads in the Adirondacks, so I don't know how much use I'll be for creating a schedule... you guys have basically seen the extent of my skills relevant to this run: I can lob in a few ideas from the sidelines and play with maps :-)

That said, I'll PM Rx Eight 7s and we'll see if we can come up with some itineraries (with contingencies for inclement weather), directions, better google maps, and links to attractions. I'll also create and post some PDFs as we finalize stuff.

Wow!

First I want to say...

THANK YOU ALL!

I can't tell you all how much I appreciate the help that has been extended. Everyone has called this my run but I really feel at this point I can't take credit for this. Almost all of you have reached out and helped in some way shape or form. It's fantastic!

I have obviously been away a few days, cause dayyyyuuuum, there has been some stuff going on!

I did not anticipate the runbecoming this much of a success nor my work schedule getting this busy.

I think all the ideas that are being slung around here sound great! I included the Lake George section based off a suggestion from KrysyGT but didn't look at the time it added on. I also wanted to get on I87 a lil bit just for some fun as I like that stretch of highway. With 4 lanes and 31 + cars.. Can you imagine the looks and photo ops? HOTNESS!

Again thank you for everything and sorry I have been busy. If no one can understand me being busy then I'm gonna play my only other card. DOn't pick on me... I'm only 25! LOL

By the way. I don't mind posting one of my cell numbers on this thread. I trust everyone:
