Winter Cold Start/Flooding TSB Released

Just an FYI but last weekend I received my "initiation" to the RX-8 flood club. Left my car sitting for a few days, came out to take it out and wouldn't crank over. (and yes I follow the ten sec, 3000rpm/cold start stop rules to a T) Anyways, towed the car to the dealer only to find out that Mazda has a new TSB for RX-8's that involves replacing your current battery, and starter to 'resolve' the cold start problems that owners have. Don't know if this is the silver bullet that we've all been waiting for but hope this fix makes life easier. We'll see.
I don't have a link to the information but I'd call your dealer to receive info on this and have updates made. I'm going to pick my rig up today, hopefully it'll stay off the flatbed for a while now!
Cheers!

....additionally I have a Red OEM spoiler if anyone is interested. $300. New, never been mounted, still in box. (see classified section on this site.)

Battery and starter replacement has been happening for some time... even in warmer climates (such as here downunder). It makes a huge difference to cranking speed.

Just got my car back today. Battery, starter and plugs replaced, all under warranty. When I had the car towed in on Monday there were four 8's already there for the same thing.

Maybe I missed it at the Rosenthal site, but does someone have a link to this TSB?

Yes, I'd love it if someone can post the TSB.

I'd like to take my 8 in to the dealer and get a stronger battery and starter unit.

The stock ones are truly weak.

Yea, me too. I'm going to be up for service anI would like the get the upgrade also. Mine turns over very slow, espically when it's cold outside.

I just e-mailed my dealer and told them I wanted the battery and starter replaced under warranty. No hassle, no questions. It's going in next week.

Yeah, mine is getting done no questions asked, but I'd still like to see the TSB for this.

TransitStrike Flood

THANK YOU TWU

Roger whats-his-name and the other "leaders" of the corrupt TWU have really pissed me off!
Not only did they call a strike, which caused all sorts of problems for my workers, andcost me 50% of my holiday business this week , but now they caused my RX8 to flood.

I parked the thing Monday night, and rode my motorcycle to work for 3 days. 3 frozen days.

Lo and behold, went to start it this morning - NOTHING. Crank, crank, crank --- no ZOOM. NO Motor. Nothing happened. No Start.

No now, waiting for the tow. I told them to bring a flatbed. Let's see.

My Rx-8 flooded for the second time yesterday - had to recharge the battery three times to get it restarted. Lots of smoke. Called the dealer - new plugs / battery and starter is their plan. Appointment next Tuesday. I'm surprised there's so much problem getting this situation fixed once and for all. Have two 1988 Rx-7 and had a 1986 Rx-7 - only flooded the 86 once. John

I got the new starter/battery/plugs yesterday with my 35,000 mile service visit. The write-up person said there was a new TSB out for slow starts so they did the replacement.

My rental for the day was a Grand Am . When I started it up it burst to life and I thought to myself , wow I wish my rx8 started like this.

when I picked it up it did start up immediately - what a nice fix!

Mine flooded 2 weeks ago. It was cold out and the car was sitting for 3 days. It started and when I put it in reverse, it died...........flooded, and would not restart. It was towed to the dealer and they put in new plugs, CHECKED the battery and put in a new starter. Why no new battery? They said mine was still good?

There is no TSB for the fitment of a new starter. There is the old TSB for the hard start problem.....but not for the fitment of the uprated starter.
