You should be working on that lic. now though, so you can jump right in next year when you get a new DD instead of burning another year on it.

Anything left for the year from Oct 7 on? Looks like Trackdaze pulled out on Autobahn.

I don't know about what 's left of this year, I do know that some clubs had trouble making rosters full enough to pay for the event.

I will be attending the Shelby Club event at autobahn later this month. It is scheduled for Sept 27th and 28th. I will be attending on saturday the 27th.

With the 20 dollar membership fee for the club, it is 200 dollars per day.

Just wanted to say I had a good track day with the Northwoods Shelby Club today. I would recommend them and will run with them again.

Also, many thanks to Mac11 for his help!

Is it safe to assume you are ready for some brake pads?

You should have come and found us in the paddock! I was the only silver rx-8 there. Where were you watching from?

I met the guy with the red 8. His name was Jim, I believe. Really nice guy. He was driving the red civic until his wife showed up in the 8, so he decided to try that on the track. I gave him our club info, etc, so hopefully he will look us up.

Hopefully the video isn't too embarrasing If you post it online make sure you can't see my license plate

I think you know the answer to that question

Also on the wish list are tires, wheels that give me a bit wider track, and springs.

I was videoing near the first corner after where you start, I'll check to see if your plate is visible, if it ends up on youtube its probably too low rez to show, thanks for reminding me
The only slightly embarassing thing I remember seeing was a classic mustang spinning out in that corner.
I need more practise driving yet, but I definitely want to participate next year, was the track day hard on your tires?

It is of course harder on your tires and brake pads than street driving, but unless you do it all the time, I don't think it is a big deal. You will need to replace your tires a little sooner than you would otherwise, and brake pads replacements will be more frequent. Some people get dedicated track pads. But others with more experience can chime in on tire wear issues, etc. This was only my 5th track day.

Unfortunately turn 2 (that is where you were watching - they actually consider turn one to be that little kink in the front straight) is the worst corner on that track for my car - you have to slow down so much that I end up pretty low in the rpm band coming out of there, which means pretty much no power The six speeds are probably better there as your 2nd gear is lower than mine.

I came up on the aftermath of that mustang spinning. They had the caution out, and then I saw him sitting in the grass. That was the only caution I saw all day. He must have been taking it easy after that, as I passed him in that same session later.

Too bad you didn't find us in the pits. We had food and beverages. Next time please stop by - company is always welcome.

It's deffinetely harder than street driving but if you have anything in the 'performance' class they will do fine for half a dozen to a dozen days/weekends. Depending on the kind of mileage you put on them in between.

I was just paranoid about ending up with bald $600 tires after 1 event hehe.. thanks for clearing that up

Turn 2 was really slow, which i thought was a nice spot to video (not that I had a lot of choice in the matter I thought you were doing pretty good, it didn't look like the Viper and Lightning passed you at all.
I saw the same thing, he spun out, and took it real slow all the laps after, I wonder if he just needed to warm up his tires, I think that was the first time he took that corner in the session.

I'll be sure to be less shy next time around It was my first time at the autobahn country club

ps. reviewing the video now, your plate isn't visible at all, just a white square on my bigass tv hehe

Sweet, then post it up if you can!

Yeah, that is a very easy turn to spin on or go off if you aren't careful. It is a very sharp turn and it is "off-camber". They warned us about it repeatly in the drivers meeting.

For your first time out, I'd strongly recommend something like a NASA weekend, running in group 1. That way you get an in car instructor all weekend. I thought it was a very good way to do it. Just remember you only drive as hard as you feel comfortable doing. It is not a race, it is a fun classroom

Thanks!

Looks like I ran anywhere from a 1:20 to a 1:30, probably depending on how many cars I had to go by that lap. I have no idea how good or bad that is for that track. I do know it is about a 1.5 mile track.

Have to let the shelby club guy I've emailed with know about it, so he can forward the link on to the guy that spins out

Anyone have any events up and coming for 2009? I want to get a jump on it this year so I can plan a schedule.

I checked mazdaoca.org and there isn't anything on the calendar there. I will bump around the track sites and see what they have planned. If anything pops up, please post it here. Or at least redirect to the appropriate site so everyone knows.

Thanks!

You are going to find that most of the Chicago people have moved to www.evolvchicago.org or click on sig for the link.
Not much has been posted about trackdays yet. Too early in the season.
