Upcoming WI/IL Track Days
It's good practice to break in metal parts that mesh together. At new production sizes and tolerances you will be shaving off slight bits of metal from all the syncros and gears for a while. We could do a used oil analysis on Devildogs gear oil after 1000, 2000, 5000 miles to verify this. I would dump the stuff that comes in in ~1500-2000 miles and put in a good GL4 like AMSoil, redline, etc

Mac brings up a good point. I would love to track the car on Saturday but I don't want to risk having to go to the dealer again for tranny issues. I lucked out this time so I don't want to push it. Maybe I can take my wifes A4
I would still take it to the track, but I would be wary of the break in, get some miles on it, be nice to it, and dump the fluid no later than 2,000.
If you can do 2-400 miles before you get it on track you'll be fine as long as you don't drag race shift it and pound it into low gears w/o rev matching.
And since when does the wifie have an a4? What happened to the jeep?

Pretty sad when both our cars combined we barely got 30 MPG
We shopped around looking at luxury sport sedans. The A4 had the best bang for buck since the new model is coming out in the fall. I actually like it, rides like the BMW 3 series. If I can get someone else to go then I might go.Savedsol,
You really interested in going?

They said they are under new management this year, by the way.
If the weather looks good and my schedule ends up being clear, I may go to this on May 31st:

Anybody else interested?

Anybody heard anything about this event? It says autobarn mazda has the north circuit at autobahn on June 21st - 22nd? Wonder if this is similar to that mazda day some of you did last year on the south circuit?

NASA will be at Grattan the first weekend of June (7/8th)

If you want to hear what a great track this is, talk to Al.
I'm really thinking I will be going to this one and camping it out.

Alex,
If I do it, it will most likely be saturday. Having never run there before, I don't really want to get out there on the second day with everybody already well up to speed. Especially since I've only had two track days so far (NASA weekend last fall).

It's about 2.5 hour drive for me, I would rather not have to drive that in the morning. Would it be possible for me to crash at your place the night before? Is your wife going? I'm down if the weather holds up, I won't sign up until a few days prior to ensure good weather.
DD, I'm PMing you.
Regarding metal to metal break in, you might want to consider that Porsche dynos engines to max power after they are built. The explanation I received regarding not having to break in the rebuilt trans was that there are no rings or seals to "break in". As you said it's straight up metal to metal. That won't change from mile 1 to mile 10,000.

Not a problem, Alex. I'm not sure if she's going or not.
The cost for Autobahn is $250 due to late registration, while the cost for blackhawk is $190. I do like Autobahn better and I just realized that this weekend is Memorial day. I'll have to pass on blackhawk if you are for sure down for Autobahn. PM me your address.
Savedsol,
Sorry I'll pass on blackhawk, why don't you come down to Autobahn next weekend.

Erin won't be coming, she doesn't want to leave the baby overnight with her parents (their old), having the baby at the track all day will be a pain so she is sitting this one out.
Mac,
You coming?
Mac,
You coming?
