Rolex Sports Car Series @ Mid-Ohio

The Speedsource RX-8 guys and all the rest will be coming to Mid-Ohio June 21 for a 5 PM race. Last year we had a pretty good showing of RX-8 folks and saw a great race! Who's up for a repeat performance?

Columbus area folks, we can set a meeting point on the north end of town and caravan on up. The rest of you folks we can meet up there.

Come celebrate the first day of summer and cheer the Speedsource guys on to another win!

Details at http://www.grand-am.com/rolex/schedule/event.cfm?eid=14

See you there!

RA-Eight 05-19-2008 08:04 PM

It's on like Donkey Kong! Count us in! #70 was soooo close at Laguna Seca this past weekend...

success07 05-20-2008 12:12 PM

Count us in.

jonnyspeed 05-21-2008 09:53 AM

I'm going to try to make it down from the SW side of CLE. Sounds like fun.

tireman 05-22-2008 11:22 AM

are you guys parking in any certain spot at the track?

Huhwha 05-22-2008 08:24 PM

If we get enough, I'd like to think we could get an infield corral. Attendance at these things is usually very low, so maybe. I'll check into it and post back.

Razz1 05-22-2008 09:29 PM

Sounds like fun!

reaper1 05-23-2008 07:26 AM

Just wondering what goes on, Sunday . Is there some other race , because the one I've read about is Saturday. I might drive out there .

Thanks.........

Thank you

Huhwha 05-23-2008 01:37 PM

Good news! I have confirmed with Mid-Ohio that they will set up an infield parking corral for us. No cost for parking. When you arrive, just follow the signs to infield parking and there will be a corral marked for RX8Club.com

I'd like to give them a semi-accurate count to ensure we have enough room, so please post up even if you're just thinking about coming.

BBQdDude 05-23-2008 02:36 PM

so please post up even if you're just thinking about coming.
I am planning on coming but with work...they call I have to respond. So no work call Brian will be happy guy at Mid Ohio.

Take care,

Brian

Put me down as a possible. Pretty sure that weekend is free and it'd be nice to see some 8s.

Groundrush 05-26-2008 01:33 PM

I'll be there Jeff. Looking forward to seeing all the 8's in the field. Wonder if we'd have the opportunity to maybe say howdy to the Speedsource team? :)

Mickey-Ds at Polaris again?

success07 05-27-2008 08:44 AM

We're in. Thanks for taking care of this Jeff.

Huhwha 05-27-2008 09:59 AM

Sounds like it's coming together!

Mickey-D's sounds good to me. I'll post in the Columbus thread to see if we can meet this coming weekend to finalize details.

For me, I'm thinking about a paddock pass. The cheapest way to do it is $30 for the weekend pass, which includes everything. Otherwise, it's $20 for the race on Saturday. These prices are online, before June 18. From experience, earlier is better, as they will mail the tickets to you so you don't have to go through will-call at the track.

Ok I'm in for sure on Saturday. Maybe Sunday as well. Johnnyspeed and I can try to get a few more of the Cleveland 8s down there when we meet up on the 6th.

Apparantly the Daytona prototypes will be there as well. My buddy knows an owner so I may be able to get close to a few of them. If the chance of seeing the speedsource wasn't reason enough to drop in that will be.

Groundrush 05-27-2008 05:50 PM

Yeah, that $30 ticket looks like the way to go...general admission for the entire weekend plus the free paddock pass. Gonna pick one of those up! Thanks for the heads up Jeff!

Optical TDI 05-27-2008 09:14 PM

I too may attend. My 5 year old son has been asking about going back to mid-ohio this year. Last year was his first time there. I'm hoping he'll take up cars as a hobby!

Mazda Corral

My name is Marlon, I plan corral events for Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development, I am also one of the founders of Cleveland6club.com. I plan every Mazda corral from Sebring to Mid-Ohio.

A couple of my members have told me that you guys were having a corral @ Mid-Ohio? We were planning to have one at this event, but see that you have already started one. I have a few questions for the organizer?

1. Do you have an actual space picked out, if you do how many vehicles is it for?

2. Is Mazda USA or Mazdaspeed Motorsports supporting you guys?

3. Has anyone contacted the teams, Speed Source, Hyper Sport, Racers Edge, ROAR Racing?

I would like to join forces and offer the membership a great opportunity. I work very closely with all of the teams above and I work with them on settin gup personal tours of their paddocks, haulers, etc. We have meet and greets, photo ops, autograph sessions, where you do not have to stand in line with the public and wait.

Here are a couple of e mail from teams principals, etc

Hi Marlon,

No problem here. We would be happy to participate like we did at Lime Rock and we can come up with a few “giveaways”.

BTW, great job at Lime Rock and thanks for lunch! Next time I can, I’m going to bring my R1 for your corral J

Jon

Jon is the owner of Racers Edge and is looking forward to the event!!

Here's another:

Thanks Marlon.

Right now we are planning on getting the #60 up to the corral for a meet & greet and to let people sit in the car. It’s our brand new car that we are going to be finishing next week. Plan on us bringing it up after our Qualifying session on Saturday, sometime around 3 pm. It might be possible for us to get it over there after practice on Friday as well so that anyone who is there on Friday can be sure to get their chance to look at it and helping to cut down on any crowd on Saturday. Hopefully this time the steering wheel won’t get stolen out of the extra car.

We have also found a few shirts and hats that we can donate to your cause. I’m not sure what sizes for the shirts off the top of my head though, I will find out later.

Adam

Adam is the owner of ROAR Racing and will haveone of his cars on display at the corral. I have the same commitment from Hyper Sport and SpeedSource, too! Also, I am working with Jim Ryan of Koni-NA and we will have some special things taking place, hot laps in the G8's and more......

We are also holding a raffle for Autism Speaks, you will get a chance to win team shirts, hats, possible "gopher" for a day for the teams, where you can have special pit access and assist the guy.......win some Mazda apparel as well.

Here are some links to pics from Lime Rock....

If you guys woudl like to join forces and make this a very special event, please let me know..so I can let my contacts @ Mazdaspeed Motorsports know what is going on.

Thanks,
Marlon

Raynman 05-29-2008 12:16 PM

I would highly recommend teaming up with Cleveland6club. C6C has great working relationships with Mazdaspeed Motorsports and with ALL the teams that race the RX-8 (Hypersort, SpeedSource, Racers Edge, etc) as evidenced by our recent successful Mazdaspeed Shu Go Corral at Lime Rock.

As a result of all the hard work of establishing and fostering these relationships through the years, we were able to provide our corral attendees "up close and personal" access to the cars, drivers, and teams.

Ooooo..... Can we touch the Speedsource 8? vb ;)

You may be able to even sit in the car, depending on the schedule of events. Sylvain usually gives a tour of his hauler, and will answer questions along with David Haskell and Nick Ham. Matt and Marty, the crew chiefs are more than willing to share their knowledge too.

You guys will have a great experience and we can make this an annual event, like we are doing with Lime Rock!

I was trying to get him a promotion!!! :Eyecrazy: They're a great group of guys and they looked really good until the fire in the car with Chip Herr driving and Also, they had another good friend of ours driving the sister car, Charles Espenlaub...tough day..but those cars are very strong!

Nic, my wife will have brownies for you guys the entire weekend too!

DeViLbOi 05-29-2008 02:10 PM

Im in for both days. :P Brownies FTW!

I8U 05-29-2008 02:27 PM

Man, those brownies went quick this past weekend!!! I didn't even get one.:(

DeViLbOi 05-29-2008 03:00 PM

Knowing some of those Cleveland6 guys it didn't matter if they were brownies or dog food...it was getting inhaled. :P

tireman 05-29-2008 03:05 PM

This is going to be a real event! Lets really push the envelope... how about a parade lap between races?

msumlin 05-29-2008 03:09 PM

If we do end up combining our efforts, I will see if Mazda will lobby for us to do a couple of laps. It has to go through Grand Am and Koni as well.

My wife bakes brownies for the teams only, no Cleveland6club members had any at all! SpeedSource, Hyper Sport, Racers Edge and ROAR Racing got them. The other teams we're the SWC TC Teams, Tri-Point, Tindol Motorsports and Horton Motorsports...

Hell, she doesn't bake brownies for me!!!!

Wait. What KIND of brownies.... Hope the drivers and crews avoided them on the day of the race. ;)

DeViLbOi 05-29-2008 03:21 PM

Well that is very nice of her. Maybe we can get Brian to bake us all a cake. :P Maybe in the shape of a rotor.

Huhwha 05-29-2008 08:41 PM

This is excellent! I will call you tomorrow to work out the details Marlon.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Good luck brownies. She brings them brownies so often that the teams look forward to her brownies. So much so, that I think it's slowly becoming superstition among the various Mazdaspeed Motorsports teams (Tri-Point, Tindol, SpeedSource, etc.).

I was the first one at Lime Rock to set up, and the first thing they wanted to know was when she was coming with the brownies.

BigWillieStyle 05-29-2008 09:49 PM

Hey Jeff!

Count me in also!! This is going to be AWESOME!!!

Will
