NASA HPDE July 7-9 @ Mid-Ohio
now they give me a damn tech form! i was using the scca one, which is more comprehensive so its ok. i put in for hpde2, a bit more advanced but i dont mind being treated like a noob that knows what hes doing.
huhwha, where did you get your helmet? i need to find a large one

Got mine at Summit Racing. I did a mail order thing because I had a gift card.
As far as tech, I had sent an email to see if we could get pre-teched in Columbus. Apparently not, but not everybody has gotten back to me either. That means we need to tech at the track - at 07:00. Which means up at 05:00 to be on the road by 05:45

Guys,
Long time lurker here. Own S2000. Have tremendous respect for RX8. Anyways, I will be out there I believe. Have been running NASA HPDE for a few years now. Another good group of people to run with is Chin Motorsports formerly known as TracQuest. It will cost about $150 more per day but you will get 3+ hours of track time in places like Mid Ohio.
Anyways, new pavement at Mid Ohio is very slick and all the reference marks are gone now. Also, don't even think about using curbs. Because it sits about good foot off the ground and it will destroy your wheels and tires.

the day went well, learned a lot about the car and had a blast. jet is fast
. btw, jet, if youre reading this before the weekend sessions take your traction control off (push off, not full 8 second hold off,) it makes a big difference!

I asked Rob (Black Prelude) to see what times he got. He had his video going so we should be able to get some lap times. I hope to better 1:52. That's what I was told I got during either the first or second session. I'll let you know when I hear back from him.
The funny thing was track buddy Jon (silver M3) and I were seeing how each of us measured up. He has more experience than I in general and had been to Mid-Ohio far more times. We wanted to see how each other would do against the other - me in the 8 with R-compound tires, he in his M3 with streets. It was a little like David and Goliath. (an optimistic 237HP vs his conserative 333HP).
At least on the Mid-Ohio track David won.
The beauty of handling. I was at best 1 sec. or so better. Not much, just a tick better. Good for my ego. I usually get crushed by the high HP cars at the larger tracks so it was nice to get a taste of being faster.Hope we run with each other again.
Got the feedback......
1:50 - 1:51
Unfortunately for only 1 lap .... because of time spent dicing behind the Mini. That's the hardest I've driven for a while. I guess I'm getting old.
Pretty happy with that.
Last year with only 2 dry session experience I was around 1:54.
