moving to kentucky

Hello all, I am moving down to Louisville from Michigan, and I was wondering if it ever snows in Kentucky and how often? I am wondering if I'll be able to drive the 8 at all from now till March. Also, how cold does it get in the winter and do your tires ever hardend and lose traction because of the cold temperature?

Lastly, how's the traffic and the popo in Kentucky? I heard that they tag you in their unmarked Cameros for going 5 over the speed limit.

thanks!

I lived in Louisville, just ouside actualy in Hurstborne area. I only lived there for about 2 years, and only was there for 1 winter.

Ive got good news and bad news for snow:

Yes it does snow there, but is usaly not very much, maby a few feet all season, but never more than around 6"-8" on the ground at any one time when I was there. I had my Miata, with regular all seasons on it...I didnt have any problem getting around. The snow isnt the problem anyway its the ICE. I would say if you get a pair of good All-season tires...you will be fine....spending the cash on snow tires would be overkill if you ask me.

Now the problem is that since it usualy doesnt snow that much there, the city doesnt have their act together when it does snow....its not like chicago or new york, where they know what to do, and stage everything, salt pies park the trucks around town, ect....so when it does snow....first they clear the highways, then they start doing major surface roads...but they wont go down small streets and they dont do neighborhoods. Also they start downtown and make there way out...I lived about 20 miles from downtown and it was the next day when they got to my area, and even then I was 1 mile from the closest major road, so that was 1 mile i had to drive on uncleared roads.

I would say you should be fine if you careful.

if you have any other questions lemme know.

you saw the camero in KY?

In louisville there are quite a few undercover cop cars, I saw 3 Buick Grand Nationals that were police, 1 was a market state trooper/highway patrol (or whatever they call them their) and the other 2 were police cars but unmarked. I also saw several 'pimp-mobile' caddys, licons ect (big wheels, crazy paint) that were undercover local Louisville cops. I even saw a white supra that had someone pulled over.

www.louisvillestreets.com

thats a site, when i lived there, 3 years ago, they had weekly meets, pretty fun. My friends George and Jenn Fraiser live there, do lots of auto cross, they have 2 lotus Elises, 1 RX7s 3rd Gen, 1 turbo miata.

They used had 3 RX7s

One stock turbo lots of suspension, one fully built t88 drag car and one TT sorta modded one.

They also had 4 miatas, 1 big turbo drag car (most powerful stock motor turbo miata in the US at that point in time) one small turbo, suspension modded auto-cross car, one supercharged 5L v8 (monster miata) and one sorta parts/modded one.

They Sold most of the cars to buy the 2 lotus's, she also had an older fully built turbo mini (original 60's one) with a cage and fat tires and stuff, i dunno if they still have that.

They are great people!
