Minnesota Storage Tips

I am moving to MN from the South, and I plan to store my RX8 for 3 - 4 months. What tips should I follow for a successful resurrection in the spring? Thanks

BoosTED 07-22-2006 03:17 PM

Non-oxygenated fuel is a must as ethanol loses its potency after about a month.

Good quality car cover, don't buy poor quality as it will scratch on paint or not fit properly.

truemagellen 07-23-2006 02:24 AM

jack up the car on all fours...if you can bring the wheels/tires inside but not critical

also make sure fuel is full

BoosTED 07-23-2006 04:55 AM

What is the reason for a full tank of gas?

fray 07-23-2006 12:29 PM

I've been told full tank of (non-oxygenated) fuel and a fuel stabalizer. This will prevent condensation from happening in the tank. Ethanol will absorb water, and a non-full tank _may_ absorb water, especially as the temperatures swing (hot to cold) in the MN humidity.

I stored mine last year on the tires, I over inflated them slightly and watched the pressures over the course of the winter. It kept them nice and round, no need for the jack. (There is also a debate on if it's good to keep the suspension loaded or not.. some people clamed it should stay loaded, others say to remove the load.. i.e. jack stands.)

Finally, once I took the car out of storage, I burned the tank of fuel ASAP, and replaced it with another tank of non-oxygenated, before switching back to an ethanol-blend. This way I was sure that everything "nasty" should be out of the tank.

Also, either disconnect the batter (you can pull the master fuse), or get a small battery tender charger. (I did the later...) Otherwise you are guarenteed a dead battery after about 2-3 weeks in storage..

eagan, mn

i see a blue one right next to forward air in eagan, mn. is that anyone in here?

BoosTED 08-22-2006 02:27 PM

Not that I know of but I saw a blue one up at Fat Boys in East Bethel last week.

It had the MS Style kit on it.

Vortex 08-22-2006 03:27 PM

That's probably me. I now live in Eagan and occasionally park down at Ft. Snelling and take the train into downtown or by the MOA. I drive all over Eagan.

I've seen a black one a few times driving down Diff, and once in a while red one at the park and ride on 28th st. by the MOA.

There's silver one that drive by my house all the time.

truemagellen 08-22-2006 03:54 PM

Hey guys when should we have the next meet...I'm going to sponsor the food...and hopefully bring some other goodies after I sort out boxes and boxes of inventory that is overtaking a room.
