Sounds like a clogged Cat but I assume you mean its gutted when you say empty. or you could have oil on the MAF sensor. If you pull the check valve on a compression tester you can see the peaks on all three sides if someone else turns it over. Im in hugo if you need more help send me a PM.

Dunecrazy,

How does the car idle? Is the cat gutted? Have you checked for vacuum leakes. If it has an aftermarket intake and the VFAD is not used there is a vacuum port which should be capped off just behind the throttlebody on the underside. (Look at page 4, photo J in this Revi install guide) http://www.racingbeat.com/manuals/18...i%20Intake.pdf
One way to test your MAF is to disconnect the MAF cable (do not reconnect without turning car off). It should idle higher. See if it runs better above the 5k mark.

You can buy a compression tester here for $20-30 Compression Test Kit The only mod you need to make is taking the schrader valve out so it reads each corner of the rotor and doesn't hold the pressure.

Make sure and remove Fuel Pump Relay!

Normally:
Three consistent pulses between 80-100psi = good rotor
Two consistent pulses and a lull = one bad side seal
One pulse and two lulls = a bad apex seal
zero pressure = tough to tell but definitely not good

I drive mine year round - get a second set of rims for some snow tires and it makes a world of a difference. Of course, if you can manage to have another ride for during the snowy months, that certainly helps prevent rust etc. But if you're used to driving in the snow at all, have some good tires, and know your limits it can work just fine!

The link to our facebook group is http://tinyurl.com/mnrx8

And like thawk97 said, a good set of winter tires make a lot of differences.

Hi, 2004 All Black RX-8 with mods soon to come... quick question though, I"m having a weird issue with my taillights... decided to swap all of the stock bulbs to LED bulbs (wasn't aware of needed resistors) after about 24 hours of having the bulbs switched back to stock bulbs... I noticed my lower tail lights work.. but the lower brake lights do not work.... only the third brake light... I did a test and put my hazard lights on to see if there was a fuse issue or something, but now my third brake light isn't turning off unless I unplug the negative battery cable... Is this a fuse or brake light switch issue? and if it is, how do I know which it could be... anyone have pics of what their brake light switch looks like installed? Thanks!

I have a brand new Exedy stage 1 clutch w/hd release bearing and Edelbrock stainless steel clutch line for sale. Still in the packaging purchased from BHR. Price is $340 for both and not negotiable. I live in Savage and for now you'd have to come pick them up message me or call/text 651-398-6354

Curious why a person would change to something else unless it was damaged or failing? The RX8 electronic power steering is one of the great things for the car. It doesn't rob horsepower like belt driven power steering. It is controlled by the ecu and assists variably based on speed.

I would do a 3 rotor engine if I was going to change the weight of the front clip.

Not a fan of dropping a piston engine into an RX.

I've gotten in contact with about 4 of you (left a message on your car)

curious how many more there are of you and if so please post here and maybe we can all meetup? Northstar Rotaries is a nice clubc but they rarely meet up and I'm talking about a specifically RX-8 meetup
Hi Truem, Just picked up my 2004 RX-8 from someone who had to sell his car. Got it for $600. It was flooded and wouldn't start. Sounds like it might need a clutch, otherwise is very good shape. Stored winters. only has 75K on the clock.

Know where to get a good price on a good quality replacement clutch? Just waiting to the snow to go away so I can drive!

Thanks & have a great weekend.
