Fellas every time I pass an RX-8 driver I wave, but have never received a wave back. Can we start the trend or something? I used to get waves from fellow SVT Focus drivers back in the day!

I also always wave. Sometimes I get a response, sometimes not. Digging the SVT Focus reference. I've been a Focus fan from the beginning. I've owned 4 of them (2 of those 2012 models, since my first one got totaled). I had a 13 psi supercharged 2001 ZX3 with water/methanol injection that was a blast.

Even when i pass a rotary owner i always stick my left hand in the air and make a fist..this is a sign of respect and power to all rotary owners.

Thanks Chibana. I had a 2004 SVT for 4 years... never realized how much fun and well-sorted that little car was until after I drove a few beaters, a regular Mazda 3, and finally stepping up to the RX-8.
Have you driven the new ST? What a ripper, I was laughing the whole time I was driving it

No, I haven't driven the new ST. I don't even want to go there. I'll just be even more frustrated over the fact that I had to get an automatic Focus so my wife could drive it (as part of the deal for getting my RX-8 with a manual). There was a blue ST at the dealer during my last Focus oil change, and it took every ounce of will power I had to not trade in my 2012 Titanium for the ST! Then again, another reason I chose the 2012 Focus was the fuel efficiency, and I know I wouldn't be hitting 38 or 39 mpg on my commutes like I do sometimes in my Titanium.

Coils/Plugs/Wires Success

I had some power and idle issues with my 8 over the past few months, and was getting god-awful gas mileage (~13mpg). I'd replaced spark plugs last summer, but decided to do coils/plugs/wires just to cover everything before going for a compression check. Spent 2 hours tonight wrenching and ratcheting with great success!

More immediate start-up, smoother idle, MUCH smoother engine response. Just had a great long drive and had to share with someone. Picture of coils and plugs (plugs were new as of 7,000 miles ago):

Did you just replace them with the OEM? I have thinking about replacing mine and ordering the BHR set. Was hoping to do it within a week or two.

I would have loved to pick up the BHR kit, but I just didn't want to throw the extra money at it right now; got an expensive summer coming up. How many miles do you have on your existing coils?

And if you haven't done it before, installation was pretty easy, more-so if you don't have big/clumsy hands like me. The right ratchet extensions/joints was key.

^ Also easier if you pull off the engine lift bracket first.

Getting that damn airbox out was the biggest pain for my coil replacement. It was 30 degrees out when I did it though, so the plastic and rubber parts were giving me the middle finger the whole time.

Finished a wash/wax and cruise today:

I'm not quite sure what you are talking about but maybe this is it

I think he means the cover over the key slot on the switch. (The key is generally not used if you have the "credit-card" remote.)

It's likely available from the dealer. Also, check with ppl posting "convert to racecar" or "full partout" threads. Being such a tiny and low-demand item, it won't be listed specifically. AFIK keyless ignition is mostly found on the GT version, not the base model.

The $8 part listed here is probably it. Also, a Mazda dealer should be able to get it for you. I've ordered parts from Thayer in Livonia and had a good experience.

2008 MAZDA RX-8 Parts - TascaParts.com

Good luck.

Where are you folks getting your service work done?

I've used Thayer in the past, but never for anything other than a basic oil change, so I'm not sure how competent they are with the more complicated stuff.
