Wow - I haven't had any issues with tint. I've had limo tint (5%) on all my cars here in Indiana and been pulled over plenty of times without anyone saying anything. Guess I'm going to keep my fingers crossed since I just got my 8 done.

Seems funny that they make them illegal, but allow people to sell them within the city / state. So they get to collect sales tax on them, then turn around and give collect for a ticket!

Fortunately, I got off with only a written warning and he didn't walk around to notice no front plate on the car. I ended up putting on the front plate because I figured the next time I wouldn't get off so easy.
hey kevy .... any idea if the smoked cover can be on the front or is it any location that cant have a cover?

written warning.

This seems to be what they do when they pull you over for bullshit and youre not drunk.

I see it as a blatent admission of them pulling me over for bullshit and knowing thats why they did it.

I guess I'm just lucky. And now that I'm posting this I'll probably get nailed. But I have gotten pulled over twice for speeding in excess of 100 mph, and was let go with a verbal warning. Yes, verbal! First time was by a US Marshall, which I don't believe they can write a traffic ticket, and he also got another call in the middle of yelling at me. Second time was by an unmarked car, who I believe was an off-duty detective, also not having the ability to write a traffic ticket. Lucky on those, radar detector never went off, I think they both paced me and didn't gun me.

it would be because they didnt gun you that you didnt get a ticket. a us marshal can do pretty much whatever the eff they want. both guys do have the ability to write traffic tickets.

Guess they had more important things to do than bother with me at the moment. All I can figure is I got REALLY lucky.

MO state patrol in this area sucks. I got pulled over in a previous car on HWY 54 because I had a clear license plate cover. Although he gave me a ticket for not having a seat belt on because it was only an 8 dollar fine, where as the cover would have been 50.

Then not too long ago I got pulled over twice on my way to work because the beater del sol I was driving had the license plate bolt holes on the front bumper rust out and I couldn't put on the front plate. First one let me go, 2nd one (jeff city's finest) didn't let it slide. But she did find the time to freshen up her makeup before she brought me the ticket.

No way I'm putting on the front plate on my 8...they can give me a ticket, I don't care.

RSD - The cop told me that the tinted covers have always been illegal, although you can still buy these at the store. The law that went into effect on January 1st bans all covers. It's Illinois law 12-610.5. I think the main intention of the law is to ban covers or sprays that are intended to block cameras.

It doesn't mention anything about front or rear plates, so I'm guessing it applies to both.

The fact that you can still buy these things in most stores bugged me so much that I sent our state representative an email on it. He said he didn't have an answer for me yet, but was having someone in his office work on it. I'll let you know what I hear.

When he comes to the window, I have all paperwork ready to go. He says to me:

So he tests the tint and guess what? It's okay. He then goes back into his car and 15 minutes later produces a ticket. He states that this is not a points off your license ticket, but a summons to pay. Got to love DOR.

So I look at the envelope and it reads $133 fine! Wow.

Just thought I would post my Trooper Experience.

Thats cool..but..you gotta drivers license, you agree to the game..the game states front plates required..

Costs money to look "cool" I guess.

Since im not showing up in any magazines, I could give a crap bout how the front plate looks.
