I-90 roadtrip-looking for suggestions please!

Hi.

I'm going to be driving from Toronto --> Vancouver in June through the US.

I'm going to be using the I-90 all the way to Washington state and am looking for cities to stop in overnight with cheaper hotels as well as sights along the way. I would like to visit the big cities, but rent hotels in smaller cities along the way.

Was just wondering if anyone has done this before? How long does it take? Any tips?

With gas prices that keep climbing, I don't want to drag out my trip TOO long and hotels always add up really quickly.

Thanks for any suggestions!

There is tons to do in Chicago. I think I need to list it here. You can use the web to find that. Further west, there isn't a lot that I would consider interesting until South Dakota. In Wisconsin, there is a turist location called the Wisconsin Dells. The place is mostly Hotels, Water Parks, Amusment Parks, Go Cart tracks and other interesting things to do. They do have the largest wooden roller coasters in the state. The only thing I found interesting in Minnesota, along you route, is driving next to the Rude River. You will have to have a map to find it. In the city of Mitchell, SD there is the Corn Palace. It is a music theater where the exterior is covered with guess what, CORN. I believe there is a car museum in Mitchell also. Next, would be Wall Drug. It is an interesting place to shop and rest from the road. It is somewhere in the middle of the state. Next would be the Badlands. That is a scenic drive off, but near, the expressway. Next there is Mount Rushmore near Rapid City. Also the Chief Crazy Horse monument and the group of hills (twisty road) called The Needles. Near by, in Wyoming is Devils Tower (as seen in Close Encounters of the Third Kind). Then you hit the Rocky Mountains with Yellowstone Nat. Park. To do this park justice takes at least 3 days. A quick drive through isn't enough. Just a little south of this is the Grand Teton Mountains.
I haven't been any farther to the NW.

You can always stop in Madison, Hotels are cheap. It's a college town so many bars downtown. If you plan your trip right you can stop by one our Chicago meets. There every first Saturday of the month. Check out the Chicago meets thread.
