Winters aren't really too bad. Usually I only hit a couple days when there is snow on the ground to the point where it makes it a little tough to drive. I'm sure there are a lot of people that would prefer to keep there cars out of the salt though. That's really the worst part of it all.

When you say you are a new driver are you saying that you are learning to drive stick?

I drive the RX8 all year round. In the summer I use perfomance tires and change to all seasons for the winter. The all season tires do slip a little on snow, but it really isn't a problem. Full snow tires are said to make the car feel very secure in the winter.

If your 16 or around there you probably shouldnt be driving an rx-8 period. Kids do stupid stupid things with high performance cars. And winters are tolerable with this car as long as you have winter tires and sand in the trunk.

Feel fortunate that your parents are in a position to buy you a car. After you are 18 and a legal adult, you can get whatever car works best for you.

Winters? You should get 32" Dueler A/T tires... On your '91 Cherokee that you will drive in the winter while your 8 is in storage. I'm sorry I can't be as optimistic about the winter driving. I have driven the 8 once in the winter and that was petrifying. As far as your 'rents not wanting you to get a stick car... Sell it this way: A stick shift car requires me to have 4 attentive appendages, so I can't yap on the cell, or eat a burger while I am driving. I will say this last thing: EVERYONE can drive stick, they just may not have learned yet. So teach your 'rents.
