Get in touch with JB Rotary ( https://www.rx8club.com/members/jb_rotary-19799/ ). He seems to be the local RX8 drifter. There is also a website http://drift-temple.com/. They should get you up on the local drift events. NOPI Drifting is coming to Chicago in August, I think.
As far as racing, can you be more specific, Road Racing, Tracking, Autocross or Drags? The first three we can help you with. A stock rotary isn't good for drag racing. If your talking about street racing......well, we don't talk about that around here.
Also www.chicagorotary.com is our local forum for all things with a rotary engine.
You seem to be a Star Wars fan.

I found a couple of pictures I thought you may be interested in.
First one is from when I went to the Skip Barber Racing School @ Road America Apr 1st 1983.

This one is of me and my Crossle 20F Formula Ford. Spring 1984

BIG Favor
Wondering if anyone here can loan me a stock 18" wheel. I scratched one of mine pretty bad this morning
and I plan to get the rim fixed at Wheel America in Arlington Heights, which has "24 hour turnaround." So I'll be borrowing it a week at the most. Thanks in advance.

All... I have arrived! After a nightmare of a move, my wife and I are officially Illinois residents again... may I didn't miss these wonderful roads (sarcasm! sarcasm!). It's good to be home though!
Are there any RX8 folks out here towards Algonquin/Gilberts/West Dunee/Elgin? Love to meet up - time to make some new friends!
Cheers, see you on the streets.

There is a story behind that car. You'll have to show up Saturday to hear it. With me, there's a story behind every car I've had.
My wife gave me the Skippy school as a Anniversary/Valentines Day present.

I just thought of something... is there anyone else from this area (Gilberts/Elgin) that'll be going Saturday? I'd like to go with someone... sucks showing up alone 'specially when I don't know any of you guys (or gals!)...

Don't worry about it. We were all new once. The first meet, there were only 3 of us to get together. The only way we knew each other was on here. That was all most 2 years ago.
I got two cell phone #'s and an email for Richard Fisher the owner of Autobahn. If I don't get a response you can bet they'll be posted here for your enjoyment.

Car is in the shop again. CEL has been on for a while now. Yesterday I started the car and it was running rough for a few minutes, but cleared up. This happened a few times, so I decided it was time to take it in.
Wilkins is replacing all coils and plug wires.
They said 2 of the coils were burnt out. The parts aren't in stock and they won't have them til monday.
Loaner is a Chevy SUV.

Well don't feel too bad Al, I took my car in for a clutch pedal issue and ended up having to put a new clutch in, then after they put a new clutch in a bearing went bad in my transmission, and now I am waiting for them to put the thing back together so they can tell me what breaks next. So my car was in the shop for the whole month of July, got it back for a week in August, then it went back in and now it is still sitting there. I have missed every good meet this year.

I know what you mean. In June 05, my car was in the shop for a trans rebuild for all most 3 weeks. Then in Aug 05, the engine needed to be replaced. The car was in the shop for over a month waiting for my turn to get a engine from Japan.
I was in the local SCCA autocross championship series and those setbacks blew me out of any hope.
My wife has proclaimed that the car is a lemon (all though I don't think so). Due to reliability, I may have to get another car and turn the 8 into a weekend car.
