Caliper Painting

Anyone know of a good place to take my 8 to get the calipers painted? I am in the Detroit area and looking for someone that does good work. I've considered doing it myself, but I think I would be better off bringing it in somewhere.

Any info is much appriciated.

Paint them yourself!

I painted my NG calipers and rotors silver. I used the Duplicolor kit which I bought at Murray's. I left the calipers on and made sure to mask off all area's that I didn;t want to paint. I put 3 coats on and I think it took me something like 2 hours total.....

How did you get paint on the side of the caliper that isn't facing out?

Ummm....you can't see the back side, right? So, I don't think it really matters whether you paint it or not. Believe me, unless you take the wheel off and put your head inside the wheel well and look closely, you'll never know.

Is painting the calipers really something I should do on my own...I've never painted anything before...well maybe with finger paints...and I don't want to ruin my baby! I have a Velocity Red and was thinking of painting them black...any other good color suggestions?

Unless your cripppled or blind you should paint your own calipers. Its fool proof and fun to do. Btw if your blind don't drive near me.

If you have the space and proper tools, I don't see why not. Just be careful what you spray. I have red too and I always wondered what caliper colors would look good. Everybody does red. I was thinking maybe yellow or blue, but those might be too "showy". I like the Brembo gold that comes on the G35, but I don't know if that color is available anywhere.

Kinda lame if you don't pain the whole thing though.

Hey flyboyindy. We need to hang out sometime so I can see how your rotors turned out. I was afraid of doing red (thought it might clash.) Maybe you can help me paint mine too. lemmie know thx! Also, where did you get those RX8 decals...those do look hot. :D

Nah...I think yellow would be good. I was actually thinking of yellow too, and I'm pretty conservative...

I think yellow with red decals or blue with white decals would look pretty good. But sometimes I wonder if painting them at all isn't too "show and no go". Maybe an aftermarket brake kit would be ideal. Obviously the $$$ difference is hard to ignore. But in an ideal world...

Well, I think red is still the way to go....either that or bright silver with red stickers... I got mine off of Ebay a long time ago, but Polak Graphics sells them too....

Send me an email, and we can get together soon! flyboyindy@aol.com

Later,
Frank

Here is the lowest G2 paint price I found. I had a great experience with them.

Did you use the Duplicolor kit? I'm wondering how the red matches the V Red on the '8.

I painted mine red using the Duplicolor paint. It turned out really nice and looks sharp. I painted mine with the tires on. The key is just to be really carful and do it right through the rims. These pics are with my winter tires but I just did the same thing on my new silver 8 right through the stick tires and rims.
