Welcome to the area!
There are a few of us around and glad to see you in an 8. Although as a group we have yet to meet exclusively as RX8 owners. Some of us participate in various meets that are open to other cars or get involved with a car club.
There is a Louisville area Mazda club called 'Mid West Mazda Club' and you look them up on Facebook. They have activities you might be interested in but mostly 3s and miatas.
I get involved in Solo (autocrossing) with the SCCA. Our Louisville area has a large group of folks (60-80 per event) with every kind of car out there. Youtube 'autocross' to see what that is about.
Some of the more active locals have been posting on another thread " Anyone from KY? " Check it out.

almost forgot to mention....
There is a local auto enthusiast forum/website: 502Streetscene.net - Louisville & Surrounding Area Car Scene
and click on the Forum link. Whole lot of local (i.e. the 502 part of the name) activity there.
If you end up with questions on DIY, this site is awsome. I have helped others with some hands-on locally so don't hesitate to ask.
