You can check out the details of the iPod install here. I basically connected up the iPod so that I could change tracks using the steering controls. Now the iPod resides in the center console and hardly comes out.

The cell phone install that I want to do involves getting the new Moto V710 cell phone from verizon. Then getting a few items that will cause the stereo to mute and have the cell phone call come over the stereo speakers. The key is that it will all happen via bluetooth so I wont have to take my phone out of my pocket at all.

Thats about it.

Yeah that was me. :D I liked your rims and wanted to ask you about your exhaust, it sounded good as you drove away. I think we can arrange a rotary gathering in the Dayton area if you're interested. I know other people with 8s, FBs and FCs that would be happy to show up. I might be at the autoX at WSU this weekend too (not participating though... ) let me know if you wanna meet up there at all.

Why do you recommend against the 710? I'd prefer to get something else but there aren't many bluetooth options from verizon. I'd kinda like to stick with them if possible.

if youre not in a huge rush hold off and more bt will be coming out. simply put, the 710 is frustrating. the bt is crippled, and the phone has enough glitches to make it annoying. i used it for about a month and went back to my old phone (the lg vx7000.) theres supposed to be a software release novemberish, so ill wait for that and see if it helps anything, but i really wasnt satisfied w/the phone even though the bt headset rocked.

I don't like the fact that I have to use the USB cable to transfer my contact stuff from my mac to the phone. I have a feeling that even with a software update they wont enable that ability of using bluetooth. I really just want one to use in the car for the handsfree car install. I don't like using headsets at all.

Just curious what the other Ohio RX8 owners are doing for winter tires? Still debating my options.

Everyone tells me to get Blizzaks. I'm not sure though. It would be nice if we had a mild winter (unlike last years) and not have to buy winter wheels.

For stock 18" rims, you can get:
Blizzak LM-22

For 17" rim, get:
Blizzak WS-50

Your best option is the WS-50 combo:
1. Best snow AND ICE traction available
2. If you have stock 18", keep this rim/tire combo set asside (the minimum on/off of tires on a rim, the best for the rim and tire)

LS-22 has benefits:
1. no need for extra rims if stock 18"
2. Higher speed rated tire (though legally speaking, you'll never reach the top speed rating of the WS-50 )

The WS-50 is rated the best winter tire, period. It does have a drawback, however, in that it does wear quickly when driven on dry pavement, and WARNING, you will lose traction in rain compared to your stock summer/all-season tires. On average you should see at least 2-3 winter seasons on a set of WS-50, maybe even 4.

I have Blizzak LM-22 on 17" wheels. They were awesome last season, never had any serious traction issues. Coupled with the DSC the car is very easy to drive with snows.

I went LM-22 because I didn't need a tire designed to handle snow and ice 100% of the time. WS-50s wear very fast on anything but snow and ice. The dry characteristics of the LM-22 impressed me last season and were no slouch when I needed the traction in the snow and ice. They felt like performance tires in the dry and snow tires in the snow.

I just got a set of 17" wheels from tirerack this wheel. I went with the Dunlop M3's with some Kazera KZ-V 17x7 wheels. They're sitting in the garage now so I'm all set once it gets cold. I wanted to get my tires now before they ran out and I was stranded with my car someplace. I also chipped in to get the TPMS on all the tires which adds about $400. Personally I think it's a bit pricey but I like the added security. Can't wait to see what they look like on the car this winter.

ive got an extra set of stock wheels so went w/the 18" lm-22. if you need a set give oscar a call at tire rack, 800.981.3783. i forget his extention, but you can just dial by name. hes always hooked us up. i believe they were $208/tire, but could be wrong as they were a gift from my dad for buying my first car

zelig, im hearing they will enable the contact transfer via bluetooth in the (rumored) november update, so there may be hope. let me know if you buy the install kit, ill get our guys to install it which is usually reserved for business customers. i just got an ipod too, once i can justify spending more money ill get the stuff needed for the install. it may be a while, but would you be willing to help me? ill buy you lunch!

edit: how can i tell which stereo version i have, an if its too old can it be upgraded?

I'll let you know how it goes with the phone. I should probably get it next week. To figure out what version of the stereo you have hold the text button and then the preset 1 button. Hold them for 10 seconds or so and you should get the version number. The goal is to have version 9.55 or greater for the iPod install.

Who are you hearing the possibly bluetooth updates from? And do you work somewhere that installs this stuff? If you deal in verizon stuff then I'd gladly go through you for my future phones. I haven't gotten the bluetooth / car kit stuff yet for the phone, I'll probably order it all next week.

does anyone know who's got the Red 8 in columbus. seen it parked at Fox and Hounds, and it seems to have some interesting exhaust finishers.

odd thing is I dont see many Red Rx8s on the road, or Greens. Seen Yellows silvers and titaniums. Saw one blue (once).

On another note, has anyone looked into getting snow tires from Discount Tire co? I am about to order from Tirerack.com, but it seems that the stuff at disc tire is similar priced, but the only snow tires they have for 17" are yokohoma IG721 ICE GAURDs. ARe those any good? anyone???:-D

I've been debating which route to go for winter tires. I'm leaning towards getting a 17" wheel / tire combo from Tire Rack or just buying 18" Blizzak LM22's from Byers or Mazda Direct and having them mounted on my original wheels.

I don't have the exact number in front of me but both places were in the same ballpark for LM22's installed for around $1,050 or so.

red in dublin w/clear corners, spoiler and strakes. theres another red w/strakes right and spoiler around me, but ive never gotten a good enough look to check the corners.

as for winters, you can never go wrong w/tire rack. ive said it before, but oscar is a great guy there and hooked me up w/my 18" blizzack lm-22 set
