It all depends on what you want to accomplish. Do you want to be a road warrior and take the curves to the max limit or autox or somewhere in between. I highly reccoment the Megan racing coilovers. I had them on my 8 a few years ago and loved them to death. Great ride, fully adjustable and you can tune the dampening effect 32 different ways to control the softness and hardness of the type of ride quality that you want to achieve. You can't go wrong with th at all and the price is right. Roughly $800 - $850
I went online to Megan, it looks like they stop at 2008 Gen 1 RX-8. I didn't think there was much difference in the suspension in Gen 2.
Cost now is up to about 1000 bucks. Looks like a nice setup though.

We both know the M3 is on smaller street tires than your RX8 and is basically an ill prepared STU car. Only thing keeping it from STU is the clutch/flywheel setup. You should be able to beat me now that you have larger tires that just so happen to be "the" street tire. With a decent driver your car could be quicker than mine, but luckily I don't have to worry about that...

ha! oh pat. well for all who missed it batavia with the CiSCC was a great event. biiiiiig lot and lots of speed mixed with a few really tight spots and a little slick pavement made for a fun but challenging course. i give the lot my seal of approval(for what its worth)but keep in mind its a little rough in spots. also pat i hate to brake your heart again but it looks like i effed up that endlink AGAIN so the 8 will be sitting one out and ill be in the cobalt. however when the car was working right the new tires in the dry were very fast.....just sayin.

I was wondering why you weren't driving your 8 Nathan.
Yesterday was a blast, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I didn't get the camera turned on for my first run so my spin wasn't recorded for posterity. I was surprised at how dusty the car was as I didn't really see that on course. The lady at the glass place I went to this morning asked me if I had raced it. Now I have to wait for two days to wash her so the windshield glue can cure.
Wilmington is a great place to drive. Too bad I won't be able to make any of the upcoming events. I will say that there was some knowledge of the event, when I was driving through town and stopped at a light, an older couple next to me complimented me on the car and then asked if I was racing. Judging from the turnout I wouldn't be surprised if you guys see more locals there next time.

The course on Sunday was really cool, I thought, very challenging and I really liked the venue too, but if we end up doing a lot of races there I will have to invest in some sort of portable canopy or umbrella, there was NO shade to be found other than the bus stop. I'm just sad that I felt too lousy to really enjoy it (our new puppy kept me up all night). I ended up spending most of my free time sitting in my car. I really should have been able to improve my times but I just couldn't seem to focus and put it all together. Oh well I'll get you next time, Nathan.

Here is the vid of my best run.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuigdg58UiM
It was my 5th run, and 55.792
I put Rzoops' 50 second run next to my video and see if i could learn something so that i can run better next time... but..
well, you are just faster in every part of the run, from the start to the corner, to the exit of the corner...
I'm always pushing at the end of tighter turn, and that slows me down a lot.
am I just not braking hard enough or is my line totally wrong or all of the above?
I guess I just need more seat time...

Tacti,
I did the same thing with our videos. I was almost four seconds ahead of you by the end of the slalom. There are HUGE amounts of time to be made up for you through there. And fast slalom speeds come with experience and finding a rhythm. The rest of the course you just overdrove a bit. Lots of tire squeal just means you are pushing them past the limits of grip. Smooth, smooth, smooth. Smother inputs of gas, brakes, and steering will keep the tires happy and keep grip at the highest amount.
Watch my video again and listen for tire squeal. It's only on braking for the most part. Then watch the very last clip where I nail the cone and hit my mudflap. Lots of squeal right as I slid into that cone. That's the sound of me cooking those left tires and losing grip. Any summer tire (I believe you're on star specs??) should be able to make a fast run with relatively little noise. All seasons are a different story..
The good thing about street tires is that they talk to you. A race compound, like Hoosier A6, will be completely silent even when you are screwing up. And even as you are losing control and spinning, they will just begin to start making noises. Use the sounds and feel of the car to your advantage and let it tell you what it likes and doesn't like.
Every tire likes smooth inputs
I will also be at the June 26th event. Run STX so we are in the same heat, and then let's try to grid fairly far from eachother. I'd be happy to give you some rides, although adding the weight of a passenger does tend to alter the balance of an underpowered car like the RX-8. Anyways, it may be a lot more beneficial to feel something than just watch Youtube videos.
