Haha sorry for stealing your thunder. You normally have all the SCCA posts. But a speaker for my construction safety class is involved with OVR-SCCA and mentioned the event to me.

 

hey no prob. i dont run the pdx stuff im just good friends with the guy who does. most of the regions have a pdx i think wor's is/was around this time. we do put on a good show and its well worth the money.

 

finally I've got the RPF1 with Star Spec on 8 and took her out for spin.

what an amazing tire they are... it sticks like crazy, and it made my car feel like totally a different car...
Compare to the RE040 on my stock rims it's just wow...
maybe just my stock tire is getting old and hard, but pretty much made me decide what tires to get after this set...

now.. however i do have a problem..
it rubs...
it's only when I make turn and at the same time there's dips or something.
I made a several quick turns, and it does not rub as long as it is on flat surface (so far)
but like when I turn in to a small road, and hit the lower area on pavement by cutting corner, it rubs.. i think it is only in rear, but haven't driven enough to be able to be sure....

so, first, does anyone know where I can get my fender rolled?
I would like to wait until I get lowered, but I kind of remember seeing someone was talking about fender roller while back...

and second, and maybe this is more important...
so should I run this Sunday's Autocross using my new RPF1 or with my stock?

the RPF1 obviously runs much better, and from what I saw, it doesn't have any problem as long as I make turn on flat surface, but I haven't taken turns with speed of autocross.

the stock rims with RE040 has absolutely no problem rubbing, but well, it doesn't stick..
I will be sliding all over....

I just want to enjoy the race, not to be competitive (yet... at least), so it really doesn't matter even if I slide around... but at the same time, I really want to learn, and get better... and I assume I can learn better how to handle my car with a better tire...

so.. would you give me some advice, thoughts, or.... whatever words anyone could give me ^^;

if the rub bothers you then use the old rims and tires. i assure you that you wont go too fast if this is your 1st or 2nd autocross and if you do it will show you the mistakes you are making. its best to run on bad tires when your new so you can see what you are doing wrong. not saying the star specs wont do that as well or that they are a bad choice but i dont think they are a necessity. for what its worth(im assuming your going to the cincy autocross) if you get bad rub and it bothers you just drive mine. ill also assume that you are they one in the novice class? if that is you GOOD FOR YOU! super glad to see you at one of my events.

either way, I was planning on bringing both set just as a back up, with some hope if someone who's experienced could give me an advice.
if driving bad tires would be better for the learning, i'll follow your advice.

ha yea i stay up later than most. just think of it this way, if you can make the car go fast on bad tires how fast will you be on good tires....

 

Tact, Turfway has elevations changes, last time we had a turn right before the finish line and several people (myself included) were grounding our chassis. Not sure how the course will be tomorrow but there will be a chance that your car will be moving enough to cause the rubbing. If it isn't bad you could live with it, but if it is a concern then you would probably be better off with your old tires. Like Nathan said, for your first time you are going to be working on just figuring out which way the course goes more than how fast you are.

 

it looks like we might be going down the hill fast tomorrow too. the course may change due to weather but it looks like we will be having a fast one. just something to keep in mind.

 

So... What exactly mean when the course is fast? Or does it even any difference to noob like me?

a fast course just keeps its speed up more. typically these courses favor higher horsepower cars and are a little less technical but that is largely just a cliche. the main reason im pointing it out is that turfway is on a slight incline that has a spot in the middle that has a sudden change that can load a suspension very well. if the course design i was sent stays the way it is we will be carrying some real speed over that spot so it may cause you to rub. again no course design is ever final until the safety steward clears it and more than likely it will change but if it is a major concern to you or you think it is rubbing enough to damage your car i would just stick with the old tires. keep in mind this is all just speculation as i have not been in your car when it is rubbing nor have i seen the finished course.

 

Thanks. Well I was going to change the tires last night, and I just couldn't get the hub centric ring off. With some hope someone can give me advice how to get itoff, I brought my stock set with me. (yep, I'm already here at the parking lot.... Just got here too early...)
Anyways, are there Any tip on how together them off? It's a metal ring, and it's almost feel ke wedged in....

It was so much fun, and thanks to everyone for advice and help.
it was totally different when you are in the car than walking though the course. Cones are flying down towards you so fast, all the plans I had when I did the walk was gone...
This is so addictive, and looking forward to the next events.

I've got some on board video, but when i compare my video with other driver's video from this event, they drive so much faster and smoother, I don't know where I should start learning from...

you did really good! it looks like matt rode with you on a few runs so i hope he was helpful. my only advice is more seat time. it looks like you are picking it up really quick so good for you.

It was nice he rode with me and gave me some advice. it really helped, especially when someone could tell me what i'm doing wrong right after run, while memory is fresh.

anyways, it was really fun, and definitely I'll be there for next event, or one after depending on how the schedule works out for me....

I may have to give it a try sometime. I haven't done an autocross since 1976 (yeah, older than dirt) in a '71 2 liter Mercury Capri. If I recall correctly, I ended up 4th in a class of 6 cars. I probably beat a Pinto and a Vega.

 

sadly i don't think pictures will be posted form the event on our site. i only saw jeff there briefly and i think the rain was just a bit too much for him. anyway i got a though lesson in how my car works from the great brian walker(and i may have got a co-drive in his FP fb rx-7 eff yes!). over all it looks like the star specs were the way to go. the only other tire i saw out preforming them in the wet were the re-11's. ill say from 1st hand the kooks are kinda rough in the rain but it did make me be a little more creative and get out of my comfort zone. also tacti i forgot to ask, did your tires rub at all?

 

I had a great time on Sunday. Driving in the rain was so much fun! It was great to see everyone that came out and braved the elements. On the other hand I am looking forward to some dry runs in the future though, lol.

 

i'm pretty sure it was rubbing, however with all the excitement and concentration to the cones, I didn't hear any rubbing....

I'm going to put the stock back on, and wait until putting the lowering spring, then roll the fender.
in that way, I know exactly how much I need to roll...

 

damn id love to see a 70's capri autocross let alone against a pinto or a vega. hmmmm now youve got me thinking about a new project car. also id just like to say that sundays course was effing sweet! and mike i cant believe you ran with your top down!

 

My sister had one of the 6 cylinder Capris, it was a quick little car. Can't say how it handled as that was before I really appreciated that sort of thing.

I agree with Ashley, we need some dry (and warm!) runs. And Nathan, it was just the one run and it wasn't raining that hard. I just needed to have my head up so I didn't miss that box on the back side!

 

ugh so it looks like the CiSCC event on the 22nd is cancelled. it looks like OVR is having a race on the 21st but i cant get that off so i might be going down to louisville on sunday....all are welcome to come and if anyone goes up to OVR tell Simi i said hi!
