Midwest Rotary Rally

I'm pleased to announce the 2004 Midwest Rotary Rally. Come join us at beautiful Road America in Elkhart Lake WI on Aug 21 and 22.

We'll have tech sessions that address RX-8's as well as RX-7's. Some of these will deal with corner weighting, photography and tuning.

We're tentatively planning a "tour" of the original 1950's course that was run on county roads around Elkhart Lake. This will not be an 8/10th's run, but a very nice drive over scenic and historic roads.

The big reason for the location and weekend is of course, the races. This weekend features ALMS, Star Mazda Series, Speed World Challenge races as well as STRANA Truck.

Keep tuned to this site for further updates.

Ming, would you please sticky this thread through August? Thanks!

Last year we had four RX-8s come out to the Midwest Rotary Rally. This year we should see a lot more since the '8 has been out for a while now. While the Tech Sessions we did applied to all rotary models, this year we were thinking we would like to do a session or two devoted just to the RX-8.

Does anyone have any recommendations or ideas on Tech Sessions that would be of interest specifically to the RX-8 owner?

We have received a lot of interest from the major rotary tuners, and can ask them to do an RX-8-specific sesion, such as ECU upgrades, mods, Mazdaspeed parts, etc.

Let us know your thoughts!

Cheers,

Steve

Midwest Rotary Rally - Registration Form - 2004

Greetings,

The Midwest clubs organizing this year's MRR (our fourth!) are pleased to announce that the registration form and event pricing are now available:

MRR Registration Form 2004

Bonus for early registration: the Gear Selector is donating one hat per person registered. This year's design is: "Peace Love, Rotary":

Note: The ball cap is of unstructured design, and includes an adjustable band at the back. One size fits most. The Gear Selector reserves the right to substitute other rotary designs if stock on hand exceeded. If you can not pick this up at the MRR, an additional shipping charge of $5 will apply.

Drop me an email if you have any questions on registering or anything else about the MRR.

Cheers,

Steve

More details, from an old post:

Midwest Rotary Rally IV is the Midwest's premier gathering of rotary-powered vehicles, including RX-8s, RX-7s, and others such as Mazda's REPU (Rotary Engine Pick Up).

The coordinating clubs (Chicago, WI, and Northstar) have selected August 21 - 22, 2004 as the date.

If any other Midwest clubs would like to help coordinate this event with us, we would love to have you.

We will be going to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, for the Road America 500. The feature race is the American LeMans Series (APMS) race, which was entered last year by Jim Downing's 4-rotor car. No final word on them running this year, but we are hopeful.

The race weekend also features the Star Mazda rotary-powerd open wheel cars, now with Renesis engines (Star Mazda is also referred to as Formula Mazda or FM).

The SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring series will also run that weekend, and with some luck we my see Pettit Racing's FD (keep your fingers crossed!) in the GT class. Tri-Point and other tuners will be running Mazda Proteges in the Touring class.

And we are planning even better Tech Sessions than last year, so stay tuned for that announcement.

Please drop me a line if you would like more info, or for more on last year's MRR, see the web site:

Hi lafrad,

Rex and I had posted more detail info in an old thread that got shuffled down the stack. Thanks for pointing that out.

One update to the old post above: Pettit Racing has sold their 3rd gen RX-7 race car. They are considering prepping an RX-8 - WooHoo! They have said that they are very interested in sponsoring this year's MRR, and are going to try to make the trip up.

Stay tuned...

Cheers,

Steve

Actually, I'm going to merge this with the other "Midwest Rotary Rally" thread that has already been stickied (of course, by the time people read this, it will already have been merged), so everything is in one place.

We had about a dozen RX-8's at the Rotary Revolution this year at the Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP). It was great to see all you "8" owners there and I hope to see a lot more of you at the MidWest Rotary Rally. I driving my FD up from NE Indiana. Hope to see you guys there!!!

I'll be at Road America that weekend. I probably won't participate in the Rotary rally stuff but I'll watch the Trans Am race, Star Mazda and ALMS races.

I'll probably not bring the RX8 otherwise I'd consider it. I'll be riding up with my dad most likely.

I'm not sure if I'm going on Friday or Saturday. Been talking to some of the guys on rx7club about the very same thing, so I'll see what we can figure out about heading up there.

The engine is at the dealer. I wasn't told what was wrong exactly. I took it in for a Hard Start when Warm problem. After I got it back, it was making noise like the header was loose. They had replaced the starter, I don't know if the header needed to be removed to replace that. I took it back the next day. Then they determained that the engine was bad (13K mi.).
The problem now is getting the Mazdaspeed flywheel on the new motor. It was dealer installed on the old engine by a different dealer. This dealer doesn't want to install the new motor with my flywheel. Said something about balance (a lame excuse). It was dealer installed and should be warrentied. I'm feeling pissed at the moment.
If everything gets cleared up, I have Friday off work and will be up there.

The last time I ran the car was in June. It's been mostly in the shop since then.
